Recently, mod producer Lance McDonald released a video in YouTube showing that by using the mod tool to step out of a large, inaccessible arena boundary in Eldon's Ring of Law, he found a complete undiscovered multiplayer arena, so many speculated that it would be launched as part of the game DLC. Given The Eldon's Open World mode, there's a good chance there are more areas like the Colosseum that haven't been discovered yet.
In Eldon's Ring of Law, near the area outside the arena, it spawns a hostile intruder that mimics the behavior of being invaded by another player, and is controlled by an AI when it first occurs as soon as possible.
In this way, it seems that this arena will be used for competitive 1v1 duels, which are not currently available in The Ring of Eldon, but have appeared in previous Souls games. The game may later add an undead competitive mode similar to Dark Souls 3 or a BOSS RUSH mode.
In fact, there is a similar Colosseum elsewhere on the Elden's Ring of Law map, guarded by a large jar. This jar has a small mission, but even if the player completes it, the Colosseum will not open. This mission again involves the battle to invade the AI, so there is a basis for believing that these arenas will also appear in the future.
