The Spartan battalion of the Donetsk militia unit, which fought alongside the Russians, engaged the Ukrainian army using anti-tank pickups (Figures 1, 2). This anti-tank pickup truck is a combination of the UAZ-3163 Patriot pickup (Fig. 3, 4) produced by the Russian UAZ Company and the former Soviet Union's 9M113 (NATO code name AT-5) anti-tank missile, taking advantage of the pickup's high light mobility and long range of the 9M113, using a hit-and-run tactic to maneuver with the tank. The Russians themselves purchased the pickup truck and added a 12.7 mm large-caliber machine gun and a 7.62 mm machine gun to the fire support vehicle equipped with special operations and reconnaissance units (Figures 5, 6). This Spartan battalion is a special force formed by the militia of the Donetsk region itself and has been very active in the battlefield of Eastern Ukraine since its creation in 2014. In addition to recruiting militias in the region, it also has some volunteers from the CIS and Russia, some of whom have also served in special operations units or reconnaissance units. After many years of conflict in eastern Ukraine, the combat experience accumulated by the battalion personnel is very rich and the combat effectiveness is relatively strong.
