Ukrainian President Želance signed an order on March 1 local time to allow foreign mercenaries who travel to Ukraine to obtain visa-free permits issued by the Ukrainian government.
Now that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has entered the most critical period, the Ukrainian capital Kiev is already in jeopardy, in the face of the fierce firepower of the Russian army, the Ukrainian army may not be able to resist for too long, in this critical juncture, Ukraine urgently needs a foreign force to change the unfavorable situation to continue.
Although Ukraine's accession to the EU has almost been a foregone conclusion, the EU is not a member of NATO and cannot provide military mutual assistance like NATO. Judging from the frequent words of thanks of Ukrainian President Zelenskiy on Twitter, at present, Europe and the United States and other countries have provided Ukraine with a large amount of equipment and ammunition, and what Ukraine lacks now is soldiers, or people, who carry weapons to compete with the Russian army.
It just so happens that Ukraine is not short of money today, and countries have not only donated weapons, but also donated a lot of money, and Ukraine can use this money to recruit mercenaries and ease the current war situation. So Zelenskiy's visa-free access to these foreign mercenaries who are about to go to war in Ukraine has paved the way for a whole process.
Under the momentum of Western governments and the media, the people of these countries have preconceived the one-sided view that "Russia needs to bear full responsibility for this", without thinking at all about NATO's step-by-step eastward expansion, forcing Russia to have little living space, and now Ukraine has paid the price for its provocative behavior, but the people of these countries can't look at it anymore, and one by one they want to "join the Ukrainian army and defend this war-torn country."
The standards set for foreign mercenaries in Ukraine are very low, and as long as they are not citizens of Russian citizenship, they can come to Ukraine after voluntarily signing up. In fact, the Ukrainian government has been paving the way for this day as early as 2016, according to Presidential Decree No. 248 of June 10, 2016 and the Regulation on the Service of Foreigners and Stateless Persons in the Armed Forces, foreigners can join the Armed Forces of Ukraine after signing a contract on a voluntary basis. The easiest way to do this is to sign up directly at the Ukrainian Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, after which the foreign mercenaries will come to Ukraine along the railway.
At present, many NATO countries have served in the military in the past, and the militants who have retired are very interested in this, and some Japanese people plan to join the Ukrainian army. As of Tuesday, 70 Japanese men had applied to join the International Legion of Ukraine, 50 of whom were former Members of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and two veterans of the French Foreign Legion.
Although the composition of the "Foreign Legion" is uneven, it is expected that this "Universal Army" will not have a great combat effectiveness, but this expresses the firm arching attitude of some countries, once these foreign mercenaries suffer heavy casualties in Ukraine, some shameless foreign media may continue to create momentum and put Russia at a disadvantage in public opinion, which is not good news for Russia today.
