As we all know, in the history of the two armies fighting, most of the two sides are dead and alive, basically rarely heard, the enemy and our troops, during the engagement, stop to say that they want to jointly guard the same place.
However, in the recent war in Ukraine, an unusual thing happened, when Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement that they would jointly guarantee the security of Chernobyl. Therefore, in other parts of Ukraine, when the Russian and Ukrainian armies are in full swing, it can be called "the years are quiet".
So why did Russia and Ukraine reach this agreement?
The answer to this question can be found in Chernobyl. The name Chernobyl, I believe everyone should be familiar with, and this place can be "famous in the world", in fact, all because 36 years ago, it was an unprecedented disaster.
Chernobyl, referring to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, located on the border between Ukraine and Belarus, was the largest nuclear power plant built by the Soviet government in Ukraine during the Soviet period, with a total of 4 units.
The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was officially launched in 1977, but just nine years later, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant had a particularly serious accident.
On April 25, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Power Plant No. 4 was regularly repaired as planned. During the overhaul, the nuclear plant management decided to conduct an experiment to study whether the rotation of the turbine due to inertia could generate new electrical energy when the reactor was shut down and the steam was no longer transmitted to the turbine generator.
If this decision had been notified in advance, so that every staff member would have been aware of the test, perhaps the tragedy that would have occurred next would not have happened, but there had been no if, at that time, the Kiev Energy Company, did not understand the test, and one of the leaders of the Energy Company ordered the reactor working group to immediately start the No. 4 nuclear reactor.
At this time, the energy company's action was not clear, and the turbine power generation working group that was conducting experiments had shut down the turbines. As we all know, the steam generated by the reactor is supplied to the turbine, and when the turbine is turned off, if the reactor has not been shut down, then the general automatic protection system will automatically shut down the reactor.
Unfortunately, however, the turbine-generator working group that conducted the experiment had already cut off the automatic protection system before the experiment began, which was equivalent to cutting off the last retreat.
In this way, the reactor opened by the energy company has been working, and the turbines have been shut down, so that the steam generated by the reactor work has no outlet for catharsis, so at 1:23 a.m., tragedy occurs, and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has a thermal explosion.
The silence of the night was broken by two muffled explosions. After the explosion, a pillar of fire more than 30 meters high soared into the sky, reflecting the night like day.
The protective structure of the reactor, as well as various equipment, was completely overturned by the pillar of fire that rushed to the sky, and the flame with a temperature of up to 2000 degrees engulfed the machine room, at the same time, more than 8 tons of super-strong radioactive material leaked, and the water vapor and dust produced, with these highly radioactive substances, spread around, and soon the smoke covered the sky.
Shortly after the accident, firefighters rushed to the scene. At this time, they do not know what kind of difficulties they will face. These brave men, the first to begin to clean up reactor No. 4, but the intense thermal radiation made it difficult to get close.
The firefighters who experienced all kinds of difficulties and climbed the reactor immediately died silently because they had endured too much nuclear radiation at one time. At this time, the Soviet Union also realized the seriousness of the accident and began to send additional personnel to deal with the accident at Reactor 4.
Because the damage of nuclear radiation to the human body can not be estimated, so the Soviet Union began to use robots, specifically for the high radiation environment to work, but the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, the radiation generated, even robots can not cope, these electronic products, has been greatly affected.
In such a situation, the Soviet government had to use manual clean-up to deal with the accident. According to existing historical data, the Soviet government at that time sent nearly 600,000 people, of which 450,000 were Soviet soldiers.
At that time, the amount of nuclear radiation that seriously exceeded the standard made these clean-up personnel, even if they put on protective clothing, only to leave the accident center and change into other clean-up personnel after ten seconds.
On the other hand, the Soviet government was also looking for a way to solve the accident, and after discussion, they decided to build a "sarcophagus" made of reinforced concrete and seal the reactor. In this way, these hundreds of thousands of clean-up personnel began to build high concrete walls around the reactor.
In the process, workers and soldiers have been threatened with death, and many have fallen ill or even died from excessive radiation exposure. However, they did not back down, but showed amazing courage. After sacrificing an unknown number of people, the high wall was finally built.
Reactor No. 4 exploded and the sarcophagus covering it
Subsequently, the helicopter took nearly 2,000 tons of material that blocked the reactor reaction, hovered over the No. 4 reactor, and after all the drops, the reactor's reaction slowly stopped, and then a concrete cover weighing dozens of tons landed on the top of the concrete high wall. At this point, the Chernobyl accident can be completed.
However, even though the Soviet Union took the initiative of the whole country to deal with the Chernobyl accident, the harm and loss caused by this incident have always existed. The accident caused radioactive contaminants to contaminate 150,000 square kilometers of the Soviet Union at that time.
All crops in the contaminated areas were buried, and the vegetation within 7 kilometers of the surrounding area was gradually dying. The 30-kilometer radius around the plant was all divided into quarantine areas, and the hundreds of thousands of residents living here were all moved, and until now, these residents have not returned, and the place has almost become a dead city.
For more than half a century, Chernobyl was unable to cultivate within 10 km and the production of dairy products was banned within 100 km. To eliminate this catastrophe, the impact on the natural environment will take at least 800 years, and the ongoing nuclear radiation danger will last for about 100,000 years.
Not only that, but due to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant incident, which also caused a large amount of highly radioactive dust to spread, almost the whole of Europe was shrouded in the haze of nuclear pollution.
In addition, the Chernobyl accident not only affected people's lives, but also brought psychological uneasiness and fear to people.
According to statistics, by 1992, more than 7,000 clean-up workers had died from the nuclear pollution of the accident, of which one-third were suicides, and the medical personnel who participated in the rescue were also affected by nuclear pollution, and 40% of them suffered from mental illness. Today, about 300,000 people die from radiation injuries.
You can imagine how devastating the damage from the Chernobyl accident was. And now the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, although surrounded by a huge and thick "sarcophagus", does not mean that it will be safe from now on.
First, because the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was covered by the "sarcophagus", still has about 200 tons of highly radioactive materials sealed, once these raw materials are leaked, the consequences will be immeasurable, so the Russian media will also call the "sarcophagus" a "delayed detonation mine".
The second is that this "sarcophagus" is not indestructible. In fact, the "sarcophagus" has been corroded since the moment it began to work. Throughout the reactor building, water continues to leak into the reactor, and in the basement of the reactor building, radioactive wastewater is also being released.
At the same time, because the "sarcophagus" cannot be breathable, it is easier to heat than to cool, which makes the humidity level of the nuclear power plant increase. In this way, these waters with radioactive substances continue to corrode the reinforced concrete in the "sarcophagus".
In addition to the corrosion inside can destroy the "sarcophagus", it can also be destroyed from the outside, as long as there are enough explosives, it can explode this "thick sarcophagus", thus releasing the terrible nuclear devil.
Russia and Ukraine, as the countries that witnessed the Chernobyl accident, are naturally very clear that the importance of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, if leaked again, the consequences are difficult for everyone to bear. Because of this, after the russo-Ukrainian war began, the armies of both sides tacitly chose not to fire near it.
However, Russian and Ukrainian forces chose to avoid the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but both sides could not guarantee whether the terrorist group would avoid it.
Terrorists are known to be a group of crazy, cruel and destructive people who use all means to achieve their ends, so it is very likely that they will recklessly blow up the "sarcophagus" of Chernobyl.
It is precisely for this reason that in order to prevent terrorists from taking advantage of the current situation in Ukraine to blow up the "sarcophagus" in Chernobyl and to prevent the recurrence of the disaster 36 years ago, the Russian and Ukrainian militaries made the decision to jointly ensure the safety of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Thus, we were able to witness with our own eyes the harmonious scene in which the warring sides chose to lay down their arms in order to protect the same area. From such moves by the Russian and Ukrainian armies, it can also be seen that the world is not black and white, and when the two sides pursue the same idea, even if the two sides are inseparable, they can temporarily sit together and shake hands and make peace.
