Many poets like to mention in their works that they want to resign from their posts and return to seclusion, but like Tao Yuanming, there are very few people who take the initiative to relieve the silk and return to the mountain. The Wild Guest Series mentions the works of several poets and makes a lot of ridicule.
First, when they met and went to the end of the road, Lin Xia He once saw a person
A story is recorded in the "Yunxi Friendship Discussion" by Fan Xi at the end of the Tang Dynasty:
Jiangxi Wei Dafu Dan, and Donglin Lingche Shangren, the contract of forgetting the form. A poem is sung and sung, and the moon is only four or five. Prologue: "Che Gong is close to the "Seven Songs of Kuang Lu" to see and send, and yin taste, are all beautiful and absolutely wen pu ye. These seven chapters, Qi Yuyi's 'Return' Xing..." (Wei Dan's poem): "The kings have no time, and the floating life is only like a cloud." It has been counted for the return of Pingzi, and the five old rocks will be together. Yan Zhenqing's grandson Wei Dan (伟丹), moved to Jiangxi in the second year of Emperor Xianzong's reign (807) to observe the envoys. He was friends with lingche (commonly known as Tang, literally cheng) at Donglin Temple, and often sang harmony with each other. Wei Dan has the poem "Si Gui Sending Dong Lin Che Shangren":
The king has no time, and the floating life is only like a cloud.
It has been planned for the return of Pingzi, and it will be heard before the Five Old Rocks.
Wei Dan said that I was busy with work every day, and time gradually passed. Now that I have the idea of retiring, I hope to meet you in front of the Five Old Peaks of Lushan Mountain. Pingzi Guixiu refers to Han Zhang Heng's "Return to Tian Fu" and wants to resign from the official and return to hiding.
Ling Che's return of this seven-piece poem is extraordinary, for the "Donglin Temple Reward Wei Dan Thorn History":
The old man has no foreign affairs, and the malath seat is also accommodated.
After meeting and retiring from office, Lin Xia He once saw a person.
Nowadays, people are too hypocritical, and everyone says that it is good to resign and go into hiding, but why have I not seen anyone?
Second, sooner or later, the rough pay is done, and an idle person returns to the water's edge
The "Wild Guest Series" also mentions Zhao Gao, who is famous for his "flute and human leaning on the building":
Zhao Gaoyun: "Sooner or later, I will be rudely paid, and an idle person will return to the water's edge." "If the body is in trouble, the heart of shijin will be more and more fierce, and there will be no return date." The Wild Man Series

Wang Shu said, if you really have nothing to do, I am afraid that you will have to think of becoming an official, and it is estimated that you will not have the heart to retreat. Zhao Gao's field was not smooth, and he was nearly forty years old before he entered the army and the first, but he could only achieve such a petty officer as Wei Nanwei.
Return to the water's edge to an idle person. As today, the idle people who can live by the mountains and waters are often the rich. Poor people who have the leisure to appreciate the beauty of the landscape have long gone out to work. Poets, too, are just lip service. As Ling Che said: When we meet and retire from the government, Lin Xia He once saw a person.
Third, the green mountains must go and return, and the official positions will come and go
Relatively speaking, the poet Wang Yijian of the early Song Dynasty of the Fifth Dynasty was much more frank, and he wrote in the "Guanzuo ShiYi Gui Cai Gui Cai Zhi
Mi did not go to the class to be ashamed, who can turn low to the dust.
The green mountains have to go and return, and the official positions come and go.
Wang Shu said that he admired Wang Yijian's frankness:
Wang Yijianyun: "Qingshan must go and return, and official positions have come and gone." "How can you forget about Xuan Tian evil?" Servants are the official positions of men, and they must all have their own fixed points, and they must not be forced to demand without solidity, and they cannot be avoided. As soon as the scholar advances and retreats, it is reasonable to be noble, and it is not necessary to be high in the title of oblivious. Guan Sangong's poems are quite reasonable in the words of Yi Jian, but it is not as good as knowing: "Qingshan is proud and returns, and the official position sometimes comes by himself." When he has the opportunity, he will come out to become an official, and from an early age, he can support his family, and when he is a big man, he can realize his ambitions. Whether it is a family or a country, it is an ideal that is easier to achieve when entering the career.
If you don't have the opportunity to become an official, don't force it. If you have the opportunity to become an official, you don't have to pretend to be high to avoid it.
Between the mountains and the water, it is not necessary to "forget the love of Xuan Tian". Because of the literati, the ultimate way out is still to enter the career. Pinning on the landscape is often because of the name of the sun mountain, or the helpless act of official frustration. Most people who read books, if they have the opportunity, still have to make a career.
Therefore, Wang Shu said that "easy words are reasonable."
Conclusion
Three people, three poems, said three thoughts of retreat.
Although Wang Shu most agreed with Wang Yijian, he thought it would be better to change it to:
"Aoyama is proud and returns, and the official position sometimes comes by himself."
It's more comfortable. If you think of the beauty of the landscape, you will retreat. If you feel lonely, there will always be a chance to come down and become an official again. However, how many people are so capable?
