Polls also show that 51 percent of Germans want Merkel to mediate in the Ukraine crisis, and 46 percent want another former chancellor, Schroeder, to mediate; only 17 percent say current Chancellor Schoeltz has handled the crisis "pretty well," and most say his performance is "not good or bad."

In an interview with DSA, Merkel denounced Russia's actions, saying the war marked a far-reaching turning point in Post-Cold War European history, according to the European Times. Merkel said she would fully support the German government in all joint efforts with the European Union, the United States, the G7, NATO and UN partners, following developments "with the utmost concern and sympathy" .

Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Kornichuk revealed in an interview with CNN on the 25th that Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has requested Israeli Prime Minister Bennett to mediate the Ukrainian-Russian negotiations.

Kornichuk said Zelenskiy believes israel maintains good relations with both Ukraine and Russia and can therefore mediate between Ukraine and Russia. He said that the Israeli side did not immediately agree or reject Zelenskiy's request, "they are considering, which is a positive sign."

In addition, Zelenskiy's press secretary, Nikifov, said ukraine and Russia were holding consultations on the time and place of the talks and that Ukraine was willing to "talk about ceasefire and peace."
