Ovarian corpus luteal cysts are a type of physiological cyst, but not only physiological cysts, such as follicular cysts or luteal cysts, rupture, pathological cysts such as endometriosis cysts, benign or malignant cyst components, may rupture.
In a normal menstrual cycle, the physiological rupture of a small follicle cyst that occurs during each ovulatory menstrual cycle generally does not cause symptoms, or only mild mid-menstrual pain, which is also called intermenstrual pain or ovulation pain.

The rupture of the ovarian cyst leads to the outflow of cyst fluid or cyst bleeding, which may stimulate the peritoneal cavity, causing abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, intra-abdominal bleeding, and in severe cases, acute abdomen that is very similar to the rupture of ectopic pregnancy, which may cause shock in a short period of time and even endanger life.
Rupture of ovarian cysts is more common in women of childbearing age [1], and a case series of studies including 70 women with ruptured luteal bodies found that the average age of these patients was 27 years [2].
At present, we are not sure about the incidence of ovarian cyst rupture, and some data suggest that 4% of women have been hospitalized for ovarian cysts by the age of 65 [1].
During the two years of the 1980s in England and Wales, 67/100,000 women were hospitalized for ovarian cysts in the national population; in the United States, the proportion was slightly higher at 131/100,000[3].

The intensity of the pain may be moderate or severe and may worsen soon after the attack. Pain attacks are sudden and often begin during strenuous physical activity such as exercise and sexual intercourse.
In the case of more bleeding, shoulder pain or epigastric pain may occur due to blood oozing from the diaphragm, and pain may be exacerbated by psoas muscle stimulation when sitting, and even lead to hemorrhagic shock and death.
Third, how to deal with it when it is broken?
If it is a simple rupture, it can be treated with observation, analgesic drugs, and rest, but surgery is required for severe symptoms, considering the presence of persistent bleeding or hemodynamic instability.
Laparoscopy is the preferred surgical modality in surgical treatment because it is less fraught with complications than traditional laparotomy, and cystectomy is generally preferred for women with benign ovarian cyst ruptures and no menopause, which preserves normal ovarian tissue rather than removing the ovaries [5].
