"I'm filming the Winter Olympics on the spot" – Chinese university students join the broadcast team of the Beijing Winter Olympics

Fixed points, snow digging, cable laying, fixing, the action is done in one go. This is one of the daily tasks of Wang Zihao, a member of the Broadcast Training Programme (BTP) broadcast training program for the Beijing Winter Olympics, at the Genting Ski Park in Zhangjiakou, where he works as an audio assistant at the Capital Institute of Physical Education.

"Wiring and cable-piercing was my main job in the early days of the Winter Olympics, and I would also hold mobile sound receiving equipment to collect the athletes' voices during the take-off and taxiing process." Wang Zihao introduced that due to his professional counterpart, he can directly participate in the core work of audio collection of the event, and thus has the opportunity to have zero-distance contact with "idols".

"In the final of the snowboard U-field skills, Sean White ushered in his own curtain call, and I was recording on the track." Wang Zihao said that this was the closest he had been to his idol, and he felt that his dream had come true.

Also working at Genting Ski Park is Cai Yuancheng from Zhangjiakou. Participating in the Winter Olympics in his hometown, he always carried a sense of pride. Cai Yuancheng said: "Qi Guangpu won the championship that game, I was on the scene, really happy! Witnessing the Chinese team win the championship in your hometown is a valuable experience that will be unforgettable for a lifetime. ”

What impressed Cai Yuancheng was also the Olympic broadcast team. CCTV undertook the public signal production task of some of the tracks in Genting, and Cai Yuancheng served as a camera assistant in the team. He described the experience as "an honor", "I didn't expect to be so lucky before I came, I filmed the Winter Olympics on the spot, and also worked with the teachers of CCTV." I learned a lot from them. He said that the serious CCTV team at work actually has a cute and kind side in life. After work, CCTV videographers will ski with BTP students and harvest a lot of fun.

In this Winter Olympic Games, there are not a few college students like Wang Zihao and Cai Yuancheng who are directly involved in the broadcast work. More than 600 college students from Beijing Institute of Technology, Communication University of China, Beijing Sport University, Capital Institute of Physical Education, and Hebei Institute of Architecture and Engineering were selected for the BTP broadcast training program and officially served the broadcast work of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

The BTP Broadcast Training Program, which began in los Angeles in 1984, is an educational project initiated by the Olympic Broadcasting Service Company (OBS), the main broadcaster of the Olympic Games, aiming to cultivate broadcasting professionals for the host country and practice the concept of the development of the Olympic talent heritage by training college students to participate in the broadcasting of the Olympic Games, so as to achieve the sustainable development of the sports broadcasting industry. At the end of 2021, the Media Operation Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee cooperated with OBS to complete various training tasks in a safe and orderly manner under the epidemic prevention and control situation, covering broadcaster services, event services, off-site production, Olympic channels, venue operations, file management, commentator services and other positions.
