Jue is the earliest recorded wine vessel, which appeared during the Xia Dynasty.
Jue can be said to be an ancient "goblet", and unlike modern goblets for drinking red wine, it has three feet.
The knight was made of bronze material and had three thin and high feet, with a trough for pouring wine in front, a pointed tail in the back, a cup for wine in the middle, and a protruding part on one side, which could be used for hand-holding. There are two columns between the trough and the cup opening.
If it is used to drink, it is obviously inconvenient, two more pillars, when drinking, will not be afraid of the face? These two columns are most likely to play a fixed role. Fix what? Fix the filter so that it can be used to filter turbid wine.

What the ancients called "budded wine" is about the process of filtering wine during sacrifice. Bracts are a kind of thatch, the thatch is tied into a bunch, the wine is drizzled through the thatch, and the wine tank can be separated to get sake. This process of separation is as if God had drunk wine, so it is called "shrinking wine." In the Spring and Autumn Period, the Duke of Qi Huan rebelled against the Chu people, and the reason for mobilizing troops was that the Chu people did not pay tribute to the Heavenly Son.
At the same time, the knight should be a ceremonial vessel for sacrifice. It is recorded in the Book of Rites and Ritual Instruments that when sacrificing the temple, those who are nobles should offer "knights". Therefore, as a ceremonial vessel for sacrifice, the wine used to hold the wine also needs to be filtered, so the two columns are most likely used to support the filter.
The front of the glass is set up with a flow trough for pouring wine, what is its role? It was used to be poured on the ground during sacrifices. According to the Book of Rites, the Matsuri is poured with sake and poured on the ground to worship the gods. Because there is a flow trough, it is convenient to use the knight to water.
So why are there three legs tall? This is for easy heating. The ancients believed that although the gods did not eat, they liked to smell the fragrance. The "Shang Shu Junchen" records that the fragrant aroma can make the gods move. Therefore, the cup filled with wine is heated, and the evaporation taste is stronger, and the ghosts are more willing to enjoy it. And to heat, there is a slender three-legged knight, no doubt it will be much more convenient.
Later knighthood also became a quantifier. It is recorded in the Book of Rites and Jade Algae that when a gentleman drinks, descriptions such as "receiving one knighthood", "receiving two knighthoods", and "receiving three knighthoods" will make people think that they are drinking with knights. Not really. The "Records of the Examiners and Ziren" records: "Lord, one liter." Therefore, to drink a knight is to drink a liter.
Since the knight is a ceremonial vessel for sacrifice, what did the Shang Zhou ancients use to drink wine? The answer is gū .gū. It is the following utensil, the flared mouth, the thin waist, the high foot, it looks slim.
