Located at No. 1517 Middle Huaihai Road, "Sheng Mansion" is a beautiful and luxurious garden villa. The residence was built in 1900 at the expense of a German businessman. When World War I broke out in 1914 and the owner returned to China, the garden villa changed owners to Sheng Xuanhuai.

In the spring of 1933, in order to avoid the Japanese inviting him to hold a pseudo-post, under the careful arrangement of the student Chiang Kai-shek (baoding wubei academy has a teacher-student relationship), Duan and his family of dozens of people left Tianjin by train to Shanghai, Chiang Kai-shek personally went to the Shanghai railway station to greet him, and placed Duan Qirui's family in the "Sheng Mansion" on Xiafei Road.

Duan Qirui originally wanted to raise a peaceful life there, but he did not expect that only three years had passed, and on October 30, 1936, Duan Qirui died in this quiet garden. This influential figure in modern Chinese history, Duan Qirui, known as the "Tiger of the Beiyang", completed the last journey of his life here.

The road where the "Sheng Mansion" is located was originally called Xijiang Road, built by the French Concession Public Administration Bureau, and renamed Route Paul Brunat in 1906. In June 1915, under the name of Marshal Joseph Xiafei of France, it was renamed Avenue Joffre (French: Avenue Joffre). In 1943, it was renamed Taishan Road. In October 1945, it was changed to Linsen Road. In 1950, it was changed to Huaihai Middle Road.
