"Concert" #Creative Talk #: Short stories are accidents in this normal world
1. Is the novel "Concert" inspired by real events? Why did you come up with the idea of writing such a story?
A: One day my daughter told me about her childhood, when she was a child, she went to see Jay Chou's performance with a child, did not buy a ticket, they went into the playground next to the stadium, and watched the concert in the stadium on the rotating Ferris wheel. She said it was her most memorable and wonderful night, and it even had a sense of fantasy in her memories.
Another day, in front of a book sharing session about "A Brief History of Women", he was chatting with a friend's child, and he suddenly mentioned that at a concert many years ago, he bought a fake ticket for "scalpers" and could not enter the stadium. That day, he was so disappointed that he kept looking for a "scalper" in front of the stadium to buy fake tickets, and it was very late that his mother found him. Because I was a friend's child, I felt a little uncomfortable listening to it (he was quite happy to narrate it), and I suddenly felt that I could write a short story.
So there was the short story "Concert".
2. Curious what would it be like if you wrote another version of the ending for the story?
A: In the world of fiction, I focus on the complexity of people, of course, stories are quite important, but while telling a good story, I pay more attention to the complexity of people. So, I didn't think about another ending. You will find that the novel is very different from the original material, and "Concert" writes both the trauma of a broken life and the mutual comfort of the cold night. I wrote about the good and evil in the heart of this man whose life had been broken, and in the end the good weakly triumphed. I'm glad to keep the warm scent my daughter felt in the novel. I felt like the story was open and I didn't think about what would happen later, so I didn't have another version of the ending.
3. If you make this short story into a popular short video micro-movie, men and boys, who will be the actor in your mind?
A: I don't know much about show business. But if you have to choose me, I think Jiang Wu will play a man very well, and he will perform the complexity of a man's heart just right. As for children, I think we should find a child who looks benevolent and stunned.
4. Can you briefly talk about your feelings and views on the form of "short stories"?
A: Man is a very easily conceptualized animal. We have some innate prejudices in our minds, and we have deep-seated fixed concepts and images of certain types of people that we don't know where they came from, which constitute the basis for our judgment of things.
The valuable thing about the short story or novel is that in the world of the novel, when the author creates a character, his "personal" logic is higher than the general idea, the novel does not easily make moral judgments on people, does not easily draw conclusions, it tries to make people see a more complex situation than a simple concept, a more difficult to classify human life.
Therefore, the short story is not real life itself, but the product of going beyond the conventions of reality, an accident in this normal world. If there is any use in the world, the novel is useful here—the novel uses concrete "individuals" to try to pierce that vast and strong fortress of ideas, so that it can return vitality and possibility to life, and freedom to mankind.
