On February 7, 2022, Vallieva won the figure skating team championship at the Beijing Winter Olympics, but fell into a doping storm after the game.

Vallieva was temporarily suspended by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency due to a positive drug test in a sample provided on December 25, 2021. On February 9, 2022, Vallieva challenged the temporary ban and held a hearing on the same day. Subsequently, the Russian anti-doping agency decided to lift the temporary ban on her and allow her to continue to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The Decision was challenged by the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Skating Union to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. On February 14, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a ruling allowing Valieva to continue to compete.

A statement on the IOC's official website said it had taken note of the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport to allow Russian Olympic Committee figure skater Vallieva to continue to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics. However, for the sake of fairness, it was decided not to hold an award ceremony for the figure skating team competition during the Beijing Winter Olympics. If Vallieva wins the top three in the singles event, there will be no award ceremony.
