Seeing several replacement starters in the 4S store, I knew that someone might have spent money unjustly

The other day I went to maintain the car and saw several starters on the scrap pile of the 4S shop. In the eyes of others, this is a very normal situation, and it must be that the customer's car starter is broken and replaced. But I think at least half of these starters can still be used normally, which means that their owners are likely to spend more money.

Because the frequency of use of starters is very high, it is impossible for manufacturers to cut corners in this regard. And the starter is not directly driven by the motor, but through a set of reduction gears to increase the torque after the drive, the motor when working resistance is not as large as imagined, so the actual life of the starter is very long. I once dismantled a starter, the copper wire of the motor is particularly thick, and the possibility of burning out in normal use is particularly small.

But everyday cars do encounter some faults that seem to be related to the starter, and many of them are not the problems with the starter itself. But the owner does not understand, and it is easy to spend money unjustly if he encounters a black-hearted businessman. Today I will share with you some cases that I have encountered that seem to be a starting machine failure, but it does not actually need to be replaced.

1, screw the key ignition did not respond, the starter back the ignition switch of the pot

My friend was pitted once before, when he went to drive and found that the key did not respond, the repair shop towed it to repair, after checking it said that the ignition switch short circuit caused the starter to burn, and both needed to be replaced. Friends don't understand, so they all change.

At that time, I knew that he was pitted, and he took home the starter machine that he replaced, and then tested it on the battery, and the starter machine turned powerful after powering on, and he would jump around without supporting himself. In fact, the fault of the friend is obviously that the ignition switch is in poor contact and cannot produce a start signal, so the starter does not run. The auto repair shop checked out that there was something wrong and wanted to make more money, so it tricked him into letting him change both, after all, only selling one ignition switch profit is too small.

So when you encounter the situation that the key is not responding, don't rush to suspect the starter, it is likely that the ignition switch is in poor contact, at this time, twist the key hard, and shake it left and right, there is a high probability that it can start normally. If it can be started, it means that it is the problem of the ignition switch, and it is directly replaced by an ignition switch. However, the replacement of the ignition switch needs to replace the whole car lock cylinder at the same time, more troublesome, if you do not want to trouble, you can remove the ignition switch, find the contact point of poor contact, these places are generally energized instantaneously The current is too large to burn the conductive material, and the soldering tin of the contact point can continue to be used with an electric soldering iron.

2, the gearbox iron wire is broken, the starter does not respond

I have encountered a car that did not respond to the key, but the start signal can be transmitted to the starter. At that time, they all thought that the starter was really broken, but later found out that the transmission was broken.

Because the current is particularly large when the starter is working, it is directly powered by the battery, and there is a very thick power line directly connected to the starter from the positive electrode of the battery. The starter negative is connected to the gearbox, and is connected to the battery negative electrode by the gearbox and the body wire. That is to say, when the starter works, the current flows from the positive electrode to the negative electrode, and then through the gearbox housing, the gearbox tie wire, and the body returns to the battery negative electrode. The iron wire between the gearbox and the body of the car did not know when it broke, and as a result, the starter circuit was not connected, and naturally it did not run. At this time, you only need to connect the gearbox to the iron wire.

3. There is noise in the starter after the engine starts

This is also a very common failure, which is manifested in the fact that after the engine is started, you can hear a dull "buzzing" sound from the starter, which is particularly loud and sounds like a gear teething.

This failure is caused by the poor return of the starting gear of the starter, because the starter needs to use the starting gear to drive the flywheel to drive the engine when the starter is not working, and the starting gear is returned to the state and does not come into contact with the flywheel. When the starter is working, push the drive gear out to engage the flywheel and then drive the flywheel. After the start-up is complete, the driver releases the ignition switch, the starter is powered off, and the drive gear automatically detaches from the flywheel under the action of the spring. If the drive gear can not be returned in time, then the flywheel will rotate with the drive gear, because the engine is successfully started after the speed is very high, so it will make the drive gear rotate at a very high speed, resulting in a lot of noise.

This failure does not require the replacement of the starter, generally the inside of the starter is too dirty, resulting in inflexible gear return. At this time, you only need to take the starter apart, clean it up and reapply the grease to solve the problem. My car had this failure before, and then I took it down and cleaned it when I went to maintenance.

So don't rush to change the starter when you find that the car starter is not working properly, because it may be innocent, but something else is wrong.
