Garifuna - descendants of black and Indian peoples of the Caribbean
In Central America (Caribbean coast and caribbean islands), an interesting mixed race was formed, Garifuna. In general, the word means a representation of the people, and the plural sounds like -garinagu. However, it is a bizarre variant that is somehow ingrained in other peoples who call it.
As you know, in both americas, the word "Three Treasures" was used to identify the descendants of blacks and Indians. But, first, it was used by the French as an ethnically and politically incorrect name, not for all Europeans. Second, the Garifuna are not just mixed-race peoples, but a deep-rooted people with their own linguistic and cultural identity.
In other words, the Garifuna are more than just some sort of conditional descendant of both races. The entire community was created on the basis of as many as three peoples — the Caribbean Indians, the Arawak Indians and the African slaves. Interestingly, Galiffin's black ancestors were not actually slaves! The truth is that these are descendants of Africans who were brought to the Americas from Africa but were not taken away because of shipwrecks.
Those who survived managed to swim to the nearest coast (island or continent), associated their lives with the local Indians, and gave birth to offspring, who were the very Garifuna. It's worth noting that the Garifuna originated in the mid-1630s when black people found themselves here. Not sooner or later!
Garifoons are also known as "black Caribbeans," meaning they are partly descendants of Caribbeans, but have darker skin colors. In fact, it's strange that the word "garifuna" itself has a root associated with the word "Caribbean." It is heavily modified only by foreign (African) lips. At the same time, it is interesting that the language spoken by the Garifuna comes from the language of other Indians, the Arawaks. He is independent.
By the way, by historical standards, The Caribbean and Arawak Indians came to these islands not long ago - in the early 13th century. They massacred the local Taino Indians here. Only then did the Europeans almost finish them (where, how).
Since there are many small countries in Central America and the Caribbean islands, the Garifuna live there, there, there. Namely: Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Guadeloupe, Nicaragua and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In addition, many Of the Kaliffins lived in the United States, but as you know, these people were already late settlers.
In addition to their native language, the Garifuna also speak Spanish, which is popular in all these countries. But in Belize and Nicaragua, they speak English (more precisely, Creole English, with extensive modifications).
If we talk about religion, then many Garifuna use various shamanistic customs and fusion beliefs. At the same time, they are officially Christians – half Catholic and half Protestant (but slightly more Catholic). Of course, Catholicism is associated with Spanish and French influence, while Protestantism (Anglicanism and Methodist) is associated with England.
