First Mexican Empire (1821-1823)

The First Mexican Empire (Spanish: Imperio Mexicano, pronounced: [ĩmˈpeɾjo mexiˈcano]) was a Mexican form of government established after the independence of New Spain, which ruled from 1821 to 1823. The territory of the First Mexican Empire largely inherited the territory of New Spain in Central America (including the old capital of Guatemala). When the First Mexican Empire came to an end, Central America south of modern Mexico took the opportunity to become independent and establish the United Province of Central America.
