With the success of Beijing's bid to host the Winter Olympics, China has increased its investment in ski jumping projects, and under the guidance of high-level foreign teachers, Chinese athletes continue to participate in international competitions, and their own strength has been significantly improved. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Chang Xinyue not only participated, but also reached the final, becoming the first person in China to ski jump the Winter Olympics. In the men's and women's individual standard platform competitions held earlier in the Beijing Winter Olympics, Song Qiwu, Dong Bing and Peng Qingyue failed to pass the qualification round.

A total of 56 athletes competed in the Ski Jump Men's Individual Grand Jump Qualifier, with the top 50 scorers qualifying. Song Qiwu came in 16th place, jumped 94.5 meters, scored 50.7 points, ranked 55th, and missed the final. Top qualifiers were Norway's Marius Lindvik, who scored 136.4 points, while the last player to qualify for the final round scored 74.5 points.
