Brothers seek the truth in a troubled world
Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian, chen Duxiu's eldest and second sons. In 1915, the brothers were taken to Shanghai by Chen Duxiu and successively entered the Shanghai French Tuition School and Aurora University.
When they first entered Shanghai, under the influence of anarchism, the brothers joined the Anarchist Evolution Society.
In 1919, they went to France to work and study together, and under the influence of Zhou Enlai and others who were also traveling in Europe to disseminate Marxist theory, their thinking changed drastically, and they rose up, broke with the anarchists, and began to accept the study of Marxism.
In June 1922, he joined the European branch of the Chinese Socialist Youth League, and in October he joined the French Communist Party.
At the end of 1922, the General Branch of the Communist Party of China in Europe was established, and Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian became members of the Communist Party of China.
In 1923, Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian studied at the Communist University of Eastern Workers in Moscow under the arrangement of the party organization.
After completing his studies, he returned to China to lead the revolution and grew into the backbone leader of the Communist Party of China
After completing his studies in the Soviet Union in 1924, Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian went to Shanghai and Beijing to join the revolution respectively.

After returning to Shanghai in 1924, he was appointed to Guangdong, and in November he was appointed secretary of the Guangdong District Committee;
In January 1925, he was appointed secretary of the Guangdong District Party Committee;
Around 1925, he assisted Zhou Enlai in forming an ironclad team, and later established the Ye Ting Independent Regiment on the basis of the ironclad team;
In June 1925, Chen Yannian, Deng Zhongxia, Su Zhaozheng and others led a provincial and Hong Kong strike that shocked China and foreign countries;
In 1927, he was appointed secretary of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang District Committee of the Communist Party of China, and was elected as a member of the Fifth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and an alternate member of the Political Bureau, and soon after, he was appointed secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

In 1924, he returned to China and successively served as the director of the Organization Department of the Beijing Prefectural Committee of the Communist Party of China and the director of the Organization Department of the Northern District Committee.
In 1927, Chen Qiaonian was elected as a member of the Central Committee at the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and in May of the same year, he was appointed deputy director of the Organization Department of the Cpc Central Committee. Since June, he has been a member of the Shunzhi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the acting secretary general of the Cpc Central Committee;
At the end of 1927, he was appointed director of the Organization Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and then transferred to the director of the Organization Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The brothers dared to oppose and criticize Chen Duxiu's erroneous line at a time of crisis
In 1927, after the "Zhongshan Ship Incident", Chiang Kai-shek began to launch attacks against the Communist Party, Chen Yannian and Zhou Enlai both supported Mao Zedong's correct proposition of counterattacking Chiang Kai-shek, but they were opposed and blocked by Chen Duxiu and Zhang Guotao; two months later, the Second Plenary Session of the Second Central Committee of the Kuomintang made clear the "case of sorting out party affairs" aimed at excluding the cooperation between the Communist Party and the split Kuomintang and the Communist Party; Chen Duxiu and Zhang Guotao once again forced the Communist Party to compromise. If we never dare to fight against the right wing of the Kuomintang in action, we will ruin the revolution."
The 1927 4.12 counter-revolutionary coup that shocked China and foreign countries marked the defeat of the Great Revolution, and at the 1987 Conference, Chen Qiaonian made a serious criticism of Chen Duxiu's right-leaning opportunism. He spoke at the meeting: The consequences of the erroneous line carried out by Comrade Chen Duxiu are also extremely serious, not only causing the great revolution to fail and our party to suffer setbacks, but also causing his brother Yannian, Li Dazhao, Zhao Shiyan, and a number of other Communists to be brutally killed by the enemy. Chen Qiaonian also said to Chen Duxiu: "Father, the line and policy you carried out in the past were wrong, and your current view of the nature of Chinese society is also wrong, you cannot pin the hope of revolution on the bourgeoisie, and the party should have its own arms."
Successive heroic sacrifices
Chen Yannian was arrested in Shanghai on June 26, 1927, and after the Kuomintang learned that Chen Yannian was a high-level backbone of the Communist Party, they tortured him in every possible way, tortured him in a vain attempt to force out the secrets of our party's organization, but even the hardest torture devices made Chen Yannian's steely will yield, and finally he was sacrificed under the executioner's knife.

On February 16, 1928, Chen Qiaonian was arrested at the Embroidery Girls' School on North Chengdu Road in the British Concession, at first the reactionary authorities did not know chen Qiaonian's true identity, and the party organization tried to rescue Chen Qiaonian in many ways, but the helpless incident occurred, Chen Qiaonian's identity was still discovered, and the reactionary authorities took the secret that had not succeeded in his brother Chen Yannian in a vain attempt to obtain it through Chen Qiaonian, but the iron will like his brother finally disappointed the Kuomintang, and finally shot Chen Qiaonian, who was only 26 years old, on the bank of the Fenglin Bridge in Shanghai.

After the sacrifice of Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian, the bodies were thrown into the Huangpu River by Chiang Kai-shek in a vain attempt to block the soul of the Communist Party. After her sister Chen Yuying learned the bad news, she was devastated and insane, and died at the age of 28.
