Hidetaka Miyazaki explained why he collaborated with George Martin on Eldon's Ring of Law: It's like talking to an old friend

In an interview with Edge Magazine, game producer Hidetaka Miyazaki said meeting with Game of Thrones author George Martin to discuss Eldon's Ring of Law was like "talking to an old friend," and he also revealed more about how they worked together.

George Martin helped construct the fantasy world of Eldon's Ring of Law, which is actually its history and main characters, not the game's plot. Hidetaka Miyazaki said George Martin knew about the game Dark Souls before they met.

Hidetaka Miyazaki said: "After talking to him, I immediately realized his skill and his passion for fantasy subjects, as well as games. There's a bit of a generation gap between us, so I was a little apprehensive about going to this talk, but after a lot of that conversation, it became like talking to an old friend. ”

"It feels fresh to have a conversation with someone who is passionate about the same things, showing pure joy and curiosity about these fantasy worlds."

Both men have great respect for each other both professionally and personally, which also helped Hidetaka Miyazaki tell George Martin that FromStofware just wanted him to write the history of The Ring of Eldon, not the real story or game text.

"At the beginning, we gave him these very vague and wide-ranging themes and the myths that haunted me, as well as the types of games we usually make, and the themes that we wanted to explore in the game," Miyazaki said. ”

"It's all messy and vague. And then he'll come back to us with a lot of thoughts: this, this, and this? Such exchanges began an exchange of ideas. ”

George Martin provided Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team with sample texts describing different parts of Eldon's Ring of Law, such as its history or important people, and the "backbone" stories of the world.

The developers from FromSoftware explained the content and created a real game, and Hidetaka Miyazaki said: "The problems that Martin dealt with in his work provided these themes for the game itself, so I'm very grateful for that. ”

Eldon's Law Ring will be released on February 25 and will land on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
