The airport became a "vegetable field", and an ancient tomb group was found at Ezhou Airport, and 900,000 square meters of foundation were smashed open

In order to cooperate with archaeology, 900,000 square meters of foundations in Ezhou have all been excavated, and experts say that the money is spent

Ezhou City, Hubei Province, was a separate administrative region as early as the time of Yao Shun. In the Spring and Autumn Warring States, it became a place where the princes of the Central Plains competed for supremacy in the world, so Ezhou unearthed many ancient tombs with extremely high research value. In June 2020, the archaeological excavation work at Ezhou Airport officially came to an end. In order to complete the archaeological operation, 12 units and 22 archaeological teams spent 85 days exploring a total area of nearly 900,000 square meters. According to incomplete statistics, Hubei Province allocated about 100 million yuan of special funds for this archaeological work. After the exploration work was completed, the experts also laughed and said: This money is too worthwhile, what is going on?

In June 2020, the hubei archaeological community sent out good news: the Ezhou Airport Cultural Relics Protection Project has been completed and accepted. As the largest cultural relics protection project in Hubei Province after the Three Gorges and South-to-North Water Diversion Project, this archaeological operation has also achieved fruitful results. 85 days ago, 22 archaeological teams and 12 related project implementation units came to Ezhou Airport for exploration work. The exploration area is nearly 900,000 square meters, the excavation area reached 15,000 square meters, a total of 183 tombs were excavated, and 20 ancient kiln sites were excavated. More than 800 important cultural relics such as celadon, pottery, copper, iron, stone tools and so on have been unearthed, and nearly 12,000 specimens have been unearthed.

According to the director of the Ezhou Municipal Museum, judging from the shape and density of this tomb group, during the Six Dynasties period, Ezhou Airport was an important population gathering area. The curator also introduced that this ancient tomb group not only excavated tombs, but also excavated many ancient kiln sites and hand-smelting sites from the Tang and Song dynasties. Although nearly 5,000 staff members are physically and mentally exhausted, they have also spent a lot of special funds. However, the ancient tomb group of Ezhou Airport has unearthed the Tang Dynasty dragon kilns of Yujiashan Mountain, as well as other important ancient sites. The director of the Ezhou Municipal Museum also laughed and said: According to the results of this excavation, this money should be spent more than worth it. And with the joint cooperation of multiple departments, it took only more than 80 days to successfully pass the completion acceptance of this batch of projects.

According to the author's point of view, through the existing data, this archaeology is mainly the excavation of a large number of brick chamber tombs of the Six Dynasties period, as well as a large number of celadon ware, gold and silverware, and the working group of the Department of History of Wuhan University also participated in the archaeological excavation. Some of the gold and silver jewelry unearthed from this ancient tomb group is quite similar to the handicraft techniques in Central Asia. Combined with the glass of the Persian Sassanid Dynasty that was unearthed in Ezhou, this is enough to show that during the Three Kingdoms and the Two Jin Dynasties, the Wuchang region and Jiangnan, as well as Western cultural and economic exchanges were quite prosperous. The owner of this tomb group is a relatively high scholar, and a copper seal of "Military Sima " has also been unearthed. The so-called military sima is a kind of military and political official position established by various countries during the Six Dynasties period.

Therefore, this tomb also provides valuable information for many experts and scholars to study the hierarchical system of the Six Dynasties period, military organizations and other important information. In addition, many ancient kiln sites of the Tang and Song dynasties have been excavated, and this area is likely to be the production area of ancient handicraft workshops. All in all, the research value of the ancient ruins excavated in the ancient tomb group of Ezhou Airport is not only measured by money. Through this ancient tomb group, it can also be concluded that the central and eastern part of Hubei is a historical handicraft population gathering area. To put it superstitiously, if there are many tombs in a place, it can also mean that this area is a "feng shui treasure land" passed down by folk word of mouth.

The archaeological project of Ezhou Airport has been successfully completed, and then the Ezhou Municipal Museum will cooperate with the working group of the Department of History of Wuhan University to conduct a detailed analysis of the relevant materials of the excavation and the funerary products, and register all the information in the register. With this archaeological work, it also helps future generations understand the cultural exchange methods between the Central Plains and the West during the Six Dynasties period. As well as important information about the daily work of ancient craftsmen, as well as living habits.
