Hu Baocheng, the owner of Bamboo Root, was born in Jiande, Zhejiang in 1958. He is a member of the China Association of Chinese Cadres, a visiting professor of the Royal Academy of Arts of Victoria, Canada, the director of the Ancient and Modern Calligraphy and Painting Creation Base, the president of the Hangzhou Jiande Ziyuan Calligraphy and Painting Institute, and a professional painter.

In 1985, he studied at the Oriental Art television correspondence college.
