STOHL: You can't set goals before you're on the track

Lance Stoll didn't give what he wanted to achieve this season, either race victory or points, as no team knows where they really are right now.

STOHL: You can't set goals before you're on the track

On Thursday, Stoll attended the launch of Aston Martin's new car, the AMR22 for the 2022 season. This year's comprehensive new technology rules mean that all teams have an open goal, either right or wrong.

Asked about his goals for the season, Stol said: "Not necessarily at this stage, the goals are relative. In 2020, we have a car that can compete for the podium and occasionally win a win, we're fighting for pole positions, top five, top three, occasionally leading races, Sergio [Perez] did win a race, and then last year we were fighting for the edge of the points zone, eighth, ninth, tenth, so I think it's a relative race. You have to focus on getting the most out of what you have, which is our focus every year. We don't know where we are on the track, so I don't think it's wise to set our goals before we even set the track. I think as a team goal we have to be very united and focus on every little detail that we're able to improve this year because it's going to be a huge learning curve. There's so much to understand, learn and try in the tests, and I don't think there's any team that really understands the rules at the moment. ”

Stoll and his teammate Sebastian Vettel will have a test drive at Silverstone on Friday.

"In the simulator, the ground effect car seems to be able to generate a lot of downforce in high-speed corners, while low-speed corners are harder, so we'll see if that's how it performs in testing," Stoll said. ”
