The author is talking about the United States in the second half of the twentieth century, and the advent of the television era made public discourse appear as entertainment, becoming a cultural spirit; and such a phenomenon is also evident in China today.
Huxley was worried about losing any reason to ban books, thinking that no one would want to read anymore; Huxley was worried that people were becoming increasingly passive and selfish in the vast sea of information; Huxley was worried that truth was drowned in a boring and tedious world; Huxley was worried that our culture would become a vulgar culture full of sensory stimuli, desires, and irregular games.
Huxley was worried about what we ruined our passions. Clearly, Huxley's fears may be becoming a reality. This book is really worth reading, and we can find solutions to what we are upset and confused about, which is also my stronger feeling: this era is too strange. We didn't know what was going on, and everything became unfamiliar.
