Driving into Kremsk, most of the local homes were destroyed in the 2014 conflict in Wudong, and few residents remained in the area. The 10-year-old Vika has lived in the war zone since she can remember, and at a young age, she has learned the laws of survival.

Vika:

I would explain this to her (a British girl her age) that you live here and you have to live. They feel good when they don't shoot, but they get scared when they start shooting and run anywhere to hide.

The inhabitants of Kremsk remain, mainly relying on the fuel and medicine left behind by the people who have a heart to survive when they pass by.

The war hospital in the city center is the only medical facility in the area, with medical staff in the basement and a grocery store upstairs, owned by a russian owner, who confesses that there is a disagreement with her Russian family about the situation.

Grocery store owner:

I persuaded them (in Russia' family) that there were Russian troops here and that the situation here was not normal. So they changed their minds[of the times], they had their news, they had their versions, we had ours, they made us fight each other.

Large-scale riots in Ukraine in 2014

On February 18, 2014, the confrontation situation in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, escalated abruptly, and at 13:30 noon, snipers fired their first shots, all five Internal Guard police officers were shot in the neck and died, nationalists in the right district began to attack the regional party headquarters, and an ordinary employee was burned alive. By the next day, 25 people had died in central Kiev, and on February 20, demonstrators and order-maintaining police opened fire on Kiev's Independence Square, shooting at both sides, killing 75 to 100 people.

On February 21, under the mediation of the European Union and the Russian government, the Ukrainian government held talks with the opposition, and President Yanukovych announced the holding of new elections, but many opposition figures did not buy the president's claims, some announced the continuation of the resistance movement, and others continued to demand Yanukovych's immediate ouster. In the evening, demonstrators and police clashed again in Merdeka Square, and then Ukrainian President Yanukovych spent his last night at home.

In order to be able to resolve the crisis peacefully, Yanukovych must step down to fulfill the opposition's demands. The Ukrainian president spoke live in Kharkiv via live television.

As soon as Yanukovych left Kiev, Pele, spokesman for the European Commission who was then Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski, and Lithuanian President Dalyakri Bauskeet immediately issued a statement saying that they would sign an associated state agreement with the new Ukrainian regime.

In April 2014, large-scale clashes broke out between government forces and civilian armed forces in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine. During this period, through the mediation of the international community, the two sides reached ceasefire agreements in Minsk in September 2014 and February 2015 respectively, and held a "Normandy model" summit to mediate the conflict, but exchanges of fire still occur from time to time.

According to the official microblog of the United Nations News Center, about 1.5 million Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes since fighting broke out in eastern Ukraine in 2014. The United Nations and other humanitarian organizations are supporting displaced persons to help them adjust to a new life. Polls show that most of those who fled the fighting in the east do not intend to return home, posing a huge challenge to the authorities.
