AMD: All necessary approvals have been obtained and the acquisition of Xilinx will be completed next Monday

AmD officially announced today that it has obtained all the necessary approvals for the acquisition of Xilinx and is expected to complete the acquisition around Monday, February 14, 2022.

In October 2020, AMD announced plans to spend $35 billion (in stock form) to acquire Xilinx, an FPGA giant, to enrich its product line and form a complete high-performance computing system with existing CPU processors, GPU graphics cards, and accelerated computing cards. In the future, AMD is likely to integrate Xilinx FPGA IP in the increase of CPU and GPU, so as to launch more targeted competition with Intel and NVIDIA.

AMD President and CEO Su Zifeng has pointed out that this acquisition will bring amD a remarkable team. By effectively integrating Xilinx's strengths in FPGAs, AMD is able to offer a broader portfolio of high-performance computing products, from CPU to GPU, ASIC, and FPGA system-level solutions. At the same time, with Xilinx's resources in 5G, communications, autonomous driving and industry, AMD can bring high-performance computing capabilities to more areas and expand to a wider customer base.
