At the beginning of the Year of the Tiger, Chen Xuezhang, a member of the China Artists Association and president of the Zhao Mengfu Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, drew his blessings for the Year of the Tiger on rice paper.
Different forms mean beautiful
Chen Xuezhang is good at ink danqing, and this time he painted a picture of the Chinese zodiac in the year of the tiger. He said that the use of tigers in paintings has been more loved by the people since ancient times, and the harmonic sounds of "tiger" and "fu" represent a beautiful wish. Different forms of tigers represent different meanings, generally divided into mountain tigers and downhill tigers. The mountain tiger refers to the state of the tiger in the painting who has eaten enough to go home, and generally adopts the posture of looking up at the moon, which means that there is no trouble, hanging on the wall, and also means stepping up. The downhill tiger is different, it is a state of going down the mountain hungry to find food, the general form is more fierce, most of these tiger paintings are used to ward off evil spirits, or businessmen take it to "prey" and attract wealth.
Chen Xuezhang's painting of the tiger is somewhat different from the traditional one. "I like to do some fusion innovation, and there is something new about this kind of painting." Chen Xuezhang took the Tiger Year Zodiac Diagram he created and introduced to reporters that "The Year of the Tiger" is a re-presentation of the previous New Year paintings in the form of ink. "This is the people's favorite festive theme." Zodiac paintings that celebrate the New Year are the most popular.
Drawing a tiger opportunity to become fascinated
In fact, Chen Xuezhang's art creation has begun since the 1970s, but the first creation is the New Year painting posted in the homes of ordinary people, mostly based on themes such as New Year painting dolls, symbolizing harvest and a better life, or some short classic stories, such as "Wusong Fighting Tiger" and "Eight Immortals Gathering", etc., and there are fewer opportunities to contact the tiger theme.
Later, when Chen Xuezhang was studying painting in Hangzhou, there was a roommate who was good at painting tigers, and the tigers in the paintings were energetic and strong, which also aroused Chen Xuezhang's interest. "The hardest part of learning to draw a tiger is finding the charm of a tiger." To this end, Chen Xuezhang flipped through a number of albums, studied the tiger's demeanor, and even ran to the zoo to take pictures of the tiger, but the captive tigers in the zoo did not have the wild nature to survive outside, and there was no spirit in the painting, Chen Xuezhang could only bury his head in the album to study. "Sometimes it's spelled out, this tiger head is good, that body is brilliant." In this way, relying on continuous research, Chen Xuezhang's tiger paintings are becoming more and more aura, and they are becoming more and more outstanding.
The pen is always working and insisting on creating
For painting tigers, Chen Xuezhang also admitted that he no longer pursues excellent results in the selection, and now some of the freehand works he has created are mainly pinned on a spirit that he wants to express. For example, in "Double Male Figure", the tiger is depicted in dark green and the tiger is decorated with the color of the military uniform, which wants to reflect the majesty and cool heroism of the soldiers.
Chen Xuezhang has created thirty-two zodiac figures with different postures for the Year of the Tiger, including "Frost Morning Moon", "Fule Tu", "Tongle Tu" and so on, including the majestic King of the Hundred Beasts and the lively and cute little tiger cubs. According to Chen Xuezhang, the zodiac diagrams he created are not only the theme of the Year of the Tiger, but also the paintings of the twelve zodiac signs on one map, "Heaven and Earth Peaceful Map", but these zodiac diagrams are not created in the form of special topics, some zodiac signs, such as dragons and snakes, are painted relatively small, and the creation of thematic forms began in 2019.
"There was no real research before, no painting in depth." Chen Xuezhang said that now I want to complete the special topics of the zodiac, now it is the fourth year, there are still eight years, when the time comes to do an exhibition of the zodiac culture, not only to convey the atmosphere of the New Year to everyone, but also to record the "zodiac" culture in its entirety and present it to the people.
