The BBC renewed Call for a Midwife for three seasons in one go

BBC One today announced the renewal of the seventh, eighth and ninth third seasons of the well-received hit series Call The Midwife, each consisting of eight episodes and a holiday special (Christmas special). While this move to renew multiple seasons in one go is common in the U.S. television market, it is still relatively rare in the U.K. television market.

Since its launch in 2012, Call for a Midwife has become one of the most viewed episodes in the UK, averaging more than 10 million viewers per season, and the show's reputation is also quite good. One reason for the multi-season renewal is that TV industry watchers in the UK predict that future hits could face one-off multi-season bookings/renewals in response to competition from Netflix and other digital streaming platforms.

The sixth season of Call for a Midwife will return in 2017.
