173 car owners jointly sued WM, saying that the latter "locked the electricity" and caused the vehicle to have a sharp decrease in battery life

IT Home February 10 news, recently a number of Wei carriage owners reflected that on the Eve of the New Year, Weima launched the "New Year's Eve User Premium" activity for users, for 18,888 lucky users to comprehensively check the vehicle and the "name" of the 200 yuan Jingdong card, secretly "locking the electricity" of the vehicle, resulting in a significant reduction in the vehicle mileage, shrinking to less than 300 kilometers, far from the 400 kilometers nominally mentioned at the time of purchase.

According to Interface News, to this end, on January 10 this year, 173 weima car owners jointly sent a lawyer's letter to WM Motors, asking WM Motors to admit the fact of "locking electricity", immediately stop false publicity within 7 days, terminate the infringement of user rights and interests, take the initiative to assume safety responsibilities, make up for major safety defects, compensate user losses, publicly and sincerely apologize, and actively respond to users' legitimate demands.

It is reported that "locking power" refers to the car company by rewriting the battery management system (BMS), locking the battery power, limiting the battery charge and discharging, changing the battery capacity, charging and discharging speed, limiting the upper charging limit of the battery and the total discharge amount, and ultimately leading to a significant decrease in the mileage.

WM EX5 owners said on the public platform that the available power of the vehicles participating in the activity was significantly reduced, the venting voltage rose from 333V to 340V, the full power voltage dropped from 407.5V to 396V, and the actual endurance was reduced by nearly 20%. The owner also said that the 403-kilometer model only has a range of more than 200 kilometers in winter, which is far from meeting daily needs.

So why does WM "lock the electricity" on the vehicle? Perhaps for safety reasons, it is reported that WM EX5 has had a number of battery safety incidents before, on December 20, 2021, a WM EX5 in Zhengzhou charged spontaneous combustion; on December 22 and 23, two WM EX5 in Hainan caught fire. However, battery safety issues cannot be solved by simple and rude "locking", after all, this damages the rights and interests of consumers.

As of now, WM Motors has not made an official response to the incident.
