Six days, take you into the extraordinary life of an ordinary old man

I was attracted to this novel called "Six Days of Wonder" because of the high score of 9.0 points on Douban. With the decline in my reading in the past two years, novels have been read less and less, and high-scoring novels are even fewer, and novels with such high scores on Douban have successfully aroused my interest.

But, to be honest, I have some regrets about reading the first few chapters of "Six Days of Wonder", because the interspersed narrative of the book makes me a little unable to understand the contents of the book at the beginning, but after reading it, I suddenly realized that I was completely attracted by the content of the book.

Written by Juliet Conlin, a British writer who lives in Berlin, Germany, holds a master's degree in creative writing from Lancaster University and a doctorate in psychology at Durham University, Juliet Conlin is a best-selling literary novel that tells the story of the protagonist, Alfred, a German who knows that he has only six days left in his life, and chooses to be alone in his old age, thousands of miles away from home, to an agreement to meet his loved ones. And his granddaughter Brinia, who has never met, suddenly suffered an accident and was admitted to the ICU, and his life and death were uncertain, so that he finally decided that he must tell the story and interrogation of his life, and told julia, the girl who spent the last six days of his life with him, the girl who spent the last six days of his life.

Alfred was born in Germany, experienced the loss of his sister at an early age, lost his parents, grew up because of the war and separated from his sister who had been living together because of conscription, worked and lived in a foreign country, and finally came to Berlin, Germany because of an agreement with his granddaughter Brinia, whom he had never met, and died here.

Alfred's extraordinary was not only the experience of his life, but the sound of three women could be heard at an early age. The voices made him feel frightened and uneasy, and he told his mom that this was probably one of the most correct decisions Alfred had made in his life. Because, his mother told him it was a gift, he came from a family that could hear "those voices": the voices belonged to three sisters who had always appeared before each generation as agents and witnesses. They would protect her if he wanted to.

Alfred's son John and granddaughter Briania were not as lucky as he was, and they grew up suffering from these "voices", believing that they had mental illness and could even take John's life. And this "voice" is what we know as auditory hallucinations, but the same thing is reflected differently in different people: Alfred thinks it is a talent; Brenia, who is Alfred's direct blood relative, thinks that the hallucinations are painful and shameful, and even push her to the brink of insanity.

Alfred's life was extraordinary, gritty, hardworking, and he had a hard-working, serious life with his own talent. But perhaps for people with their own talents like Alfred, as a sentence on the cover of the book "Six Days of Wonder" says: We have given every courage, but we have only lived this ordinary life.
