On February 9, South Korean car companies Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors announced that they would recall a total of nearly 500,000 vehicles in the United States. The reason for the recall is that the vehicle is at risk of spontaneous combustion due to design defects. The manufacturer also informed the owner to park the vehicle as far as possible outdoors and away from the building before the recall repair was completed.

It is reported that hyundai cars may be faulty because of the anti-lock braking system (ABS), which leads to a short circuit and causes a fire. A similar problem exists with Kiya Automotive's hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU), which can lead to short circuits and fires.

At present, the north American recall does not involve the Chinese market, and Hyundai and Kia Motors and their joint ventures have not released any recall information.

Due to the fire hazard of the vehicle, it is not uncommon to advise the owner to park away from indoor parking lots and buildings.
