Sony will announce a "breakthrough AI project" to build in partnership with the developers of GT Racing 7

Sony set up an AI division in 2019 to focus on "unleashing human imagination and creativity with artificial intelligence." While it sounds good, since its inception, I have hardly heard anything about the department and it is unclear what it usually does.

Sony will announce a "breakthrough AI project" to build in partnership with the developers of GT Racing 7

Today Sony's AI division announced that it will partner with Polyphony Digital, the developer of GT Turismo 7, to create a "groundbreaking AI project" later this week and released a warm-up video that mentions "Racing Together." As for what the cooperation between the two sides will bring, it is not clear, but perhaps Sony's chairman, president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida will have some insight into the project in his words last year:

Sony Artificial Intelligence, which we founded last year, has already started working with PlayStation, which will make the gaming experience richer and more enjoyable. At present, we are using related technologies to develop game AI agents that can become game opponents or collaborators of players.

It sounds like simulating the player's actions in the absence of other players, based on the player's driving style. Of course, the specifics are yet to be confirmed, but I believe it is a useful addition to GT Racing 7. As planned, Sony will release GT Racing 7 on March 4, 2022, on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms.

The GT Racing 7 will be divided into digital and physical versions, and will provide a $10 digital version upgrade option to facilitate PlayStation 4 users to change to PlayStation 5 consoles in the future. Previously, the new "God of War" work has taken the same approach, and any PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 cross-platform games produced by Sony itself in the future should provide similar services.
