The novel appealed to me from the beginning. "The Song of Heavenly Garlic"
This is probably one of Mo Yan's heaviest books, scenes that are both frightening and disgusting, where the characters lose their humanity but you have to admit it because they are your loved ones, there are bad and terrible things in this world, and the creators of these things are us.

This kind of reading has no deliberate wording, no disguise, and will not prepare you for the content of the next page. Although it constantly describes horrors that I could not imagine, I could not put down the book: the life of a peasant, the imprisonment of a prison, the sense of powerlessness in despair in life, the endless hardships of every day. Heartbreaking lives are displayed nakedly, like a heartless museum curatorial exhibition, displayed there for us to see and consume.
