Non-professionals want to learn about ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE? This popular science audio book is just right for you

Recently, produced by higher education press, jointly created by the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University and the Intelligent Education Center of Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the original artificial intelligence frontier science popularization audio general knowledge digital book - "Into Artificial Intelligence" was officially launched on the Himalayas platform and open to the public free of charge. The host of the audio book is Executive Vice President of shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University and Professor Wu Fei of Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Zhejiang University.

"Into Artificial Intelligence" mainly targets people in non-artificial intelligence, non-computer science and technology fields, especially adolescents as an important coverage group.

[Artificial intelligence is promoting the emergence of a social form of human-machine coexistence]

What are the wonderful contents of "Into Artificial Intelligence"?

According to reports, the column first sorted out the historical development of artificial intelligence. If the idea of "everything is numbered" proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagorean school is likened to the advent of the "digital age", then the emergence of "computable ideas" in the 1930s sounded the clarion call for mankind to move towards "automated production", and the proposal of the "Turing machine model" was the strongest sound in the sound horn. In 1955, four scholars first used the term "artificial intelligence" in a project proposal for a Dartmouth symposium, proposing the ambitious goal of how to use computers to simulate human intelligence.

Second, clarify the different technical methods of artificial intelligence from the perspective of "can" and "can't". The simulation of human intelligence can understand the ins and outs of these artificial intelligence methods through a variety of methods such as logical reasoning, machine learning, game confrontation, group-wisdom cooperation, causal analysis and data fusion, and know the advantages and disadvantages of these methods, so as to "know its meaning, understand its reasoning, abide by its rules, and practice its deeds" for artificial intelligence.

Third, from the perspective of interdisciplinarity, it presents the dazzling beauty caused by the collision of artificial intelligence with other disciplines. Artificial intelligence is an "enabling" technology similar to an internal combustion engine or electricity, and naturally has the potential to promote the intersection of disciplines. Artificial intelligence and brain science research intersect, while overcoming the problem of diagnosis and treatment of heavy brain diseases, but also building a bridge between the human brain and the machine brain and moving towards hybrid enhanced intelligence; artificial intelligence and mathematics, physics and chemistry are combined to reshape the paradigm of scientific discovery, such as artificial intelligence predicting the three-dimensional spatial structure of proteins, providing a new perspective for exploring the "dance of life". Artificial intelligence has the characteristics of the integration of technical attributes and social attributes, which is promoting the emergence of a social form of human-machine coexistence.

Finally, suggestions for learning artificial intelligence are provided. At present, there is a great demand for research talents engaged in "from 0 to 1" basic research and original innovation in artificial intelligence, as well as engineering talents who transform artificial intelligence innovative thinking into products "from 1 to N". "Artificial intelligence itself is still in the process of continuous development and progress, we must be wary of the unrealistic act of equating artificial intelligence with the human brain and the unfounded disturbance of 'artificial intelligence surpassing humans', and recognize that artificial intelligence is still in the stage of completing specific tasks, and moving towards general artificial intelligence is a long-term and arduous task facing mankind in the future." Wu Fei introduced.

【Will create a primary and secondary school information literacy and colleges and universities convergence cultivation system】

At the end of 2010, Professor Pan Yunhe, former president of Zhejiang University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, learned that Wu Feigang had returned from a visit to the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley, and asked him with great interest whether he had brought back a course useful to students in the School of Computer Science.

"From the questions of the old principal, I deeply felt the importance of a good course and a good textbook for the growth of students." Wu Fei said that in order to give artificial intelligence undergraduate students a good artificial intelligence lesson, he published the textbook "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence: Models and Algorithms" in higher education press in 2020, and built the first batch of national online courses "Artificial Intelligence: Models and Algorithms" that matched the textbooks on the website of Ai Course (China University MOOC). At the same time, at the invitation of the Information Technology Teaching and Research Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, he wrote the general high school information technology textbook "Artificial Intelligence Preliminary" for high school students.

Since 2015, Wu Fei has participated in the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, etc. related to artificial intelligence planning and discipline professional construction. "I've been thinking about how to introduce AI to people with non-computer backgrounds, especially young people, so that they can benefit from the technical ideas and methodologies of this cutting-edge science with less effort, which is the original intention of the digital column "Into Artificial Intelligence"."

As a new type of R&D institution jointly built by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Zhejiang University, since its inception, the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University has always adhered to the breakthrough of cutting-edge foundation and key core technologies, actively explored the cultivation of a new generation of artificial intelligence talents and the ecological construction of scientific research and education, and strived to build a talent training platform for the integration of industry and education in education and industry.

In the future, the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Study of Zhejiang University will continue to explore the innovative first-class talent training model of "highlighting the connotation, promoting intersection, and empowering application", establish a three-dimensional and complete curriculum knowledge system and popular science knowledge system, create a continuous and connected cultivation system for primary and secondary school information literacy and university expertise, and strive to cultivate strategic resources for building a first-mover advantage in the development of artificial intelligence.
