According to Taiwanese media reports, South Korea's Samsung Group has set a target of purchasing 56 million LCD panels and TV shipments this year, a sharp increase of 16.7% and 14.3% respectively over last year. It is reported that this year, Samsung will purchase more than 10 million LCD panels from Innolux and AUO, and the total number of LCD panels supplied by Samsung Group this year will increase by 14% per year.

According to the planning of Samsung Group, its Samsung Display will close the only remaining LCD panel factory in South Korea in June this year as early as half a year and officially withdraw from LCD manufacturing, but the Samsung Image Display Division (Samsung VD) within the Group still has an active shipment and external procurement LCD plan, showing that Samsung Group's demand for LCD panels continues to be strong, becoming a major boost to the growth of Innolux and AUO.

The proportion of AUO's TV panel sales performance in the third quarter of last year has dropped to 21%, and AUO Chairman Peng Shuanglang said that the proportion of TV panel shipments will remain at about 20%, mainly considering the continuous service of TV brand customers, and will not significantly reduce TV panel shipments.

Peng Shuanglang stressed that AUO is committed to adjusting the product portfolio to the best, mainly to meet the long-term needs of high-end TVs, while expanding and enhancing more value applications in industry, automotive and business, the future of automotive display is becoming more and more important, AUO will have more opportunities to directly contact with car manufacturers, expand business opportunities and markets.

Hong Jinyang, chairman of Innolux, said that this year's operation is prudent and optimistic, and there may not be a sudden demand like last year, but this year will still show positive development. Innolux continues to deploy high-end, high-value-added products. In recent years, Innolux has not pursued the production of high-volume standard products, but has shifted to the strategy of high value-added product proportion, which is expected to slow down the impact of panel prices.

Yang Zhuxiang, general manager of Innolux, pointed out that customers are still counting the demand situation in various countries this year, and will pay close attention to the development of the international situation and dynamically adjust operations. At present, the panel market demand is still in place, with the early withdrawal of South Korea's Samsung LCD business, the market will become oligopoly, rigid demand support, suppliers are reduced, and the market price is expected to stabilize.

According to the latest report of Omdia, a research and research agency, in 2021, Samsung's image display division will purchase about 48 million panels, with a total shipment of 42 million units, and plans to purchase 56 million panels in 2022, and 48 million units will be shipped. These include 53 million LCD TV open cells, 1 million QD OLED panels, and 2 million WOLED TV panels.
