TA: After greenwood's abusive girlfriend incident, Manchester United did not hire legal counsel for him

The Athletic reported on Jan. 31 that Greenwood was suspected of raping and assaulting a woman, but United did not provide him with legal counsel.

Greenwood has arranged for a personal representative to be questioned by the police, and the investigation is ongoing. The 20-year-old was detained on Sunday while his teammates trained with head coach Ronnick at Carrington. United previously announced that Greenwood would not play or train for the club until further notice, a decision that takes into account the procedures involved and that employers can decide for themselves whether to take such action in the event of a criminal investigation.

After a woman posted photos of bruises and bleeding from her lips, as well as recordings of apparent sexual assaults, police traveled to Greenwood's home to search for evidence. United have provided legal aid to players in the past, such as in the case of Maguire's arrest in Greece in August 2020 on suspicion of assault and bribery. However, when Ravel Morrison accepted allegations of witness intimidation in early 2011, United did not appoint a lawyer for him.
