Walk thousands of miles, good at reading wordless books

Lu You, a 74-year-old leader of the Southern Song Dynasty poetry circle, educated his youngest son Lu Ziyu with his lifelong reading experience, leaving behind the poem "Winter Night Reading Show Ziyu" that has been recited to this day:

The ancients learned without sparing no effort, and the young and strong work began to grow old.

On paper, I finally realized that I had to do something about it.

The knowledge obtained from books is ultimately shallow, and to truly understand the profound truth in books, we must practice them. This is the combination of theory advocated by the ancients with practice.

There are two ways for people to acquire knowledge, one is practice and the other is reading. Practice is to walk thousands of miles, that is, to read the "wordless book" of society, which is the most important channel for seeking knowledge. Sima Qian, Li Bai, Shen Kuo, Xu Xiake, and countless sages are all examples of achievements in the journey of thousands of miles.

Unfortunately, some people have read a lot of books, but in the end they become a "two-legged bookcase" that does nothing. The "Nanshi Lu Cheng Biography" records that Cheng was called a master's student in the world, and after reading "Yi" for three years, he did not understand the meaning of the text, and he did not succeed in writing the "Book of Song". Wang Jian's play: "Lu Gong, the bookcase is also." "Rote memorization, do not seek much understanding, let alone link theory with practice, like Lu Cheng dead reading dead books, no wonder he can't write books."

Hong Yingming of the Ming Dynasty said in the book "Cai Gen Tan": "People interpret the book with characters, but do not interpret the book without words; they know to play the stringed piano, but they do not know to play the stringless piano." If it is used by deeds and not by God, how can it be fun to get the piano book? "How can such a vulgar person who knows only the use of tangible things and does not know how to comprehend the invisible charm understand the true pleasure of reading?"
