Reporter: How did you get on the path of learning martial arts?

Like all boys, I was very passionate about martial arts movies when I was a kid, and I liked things like knives, guns, sticks, and sticks.

In the martial arts movies, the heroic martial arts and the heroism of the world deeply attracted me. Slowly, the "martial arts dream" lit up in my heart. I want to learn martial arts and aspire to be a character in martial arts novels. I put my thoughts to my father to communicate. My father saw that I had no intention of studying, but I was interested in learning martial arts, so I had to agree. In the first few days of entering the martial arts school, I was always very excited, so excited that I couldn't sleep.

I entered the martial arts school in 2010 and I just turned 12. I imagined that I could finally do what I did in the movie.

Reporter: Do you have any idols of your own?

After coming to the sports school, I realized that there was no "flying in the sky" kung fu.

However, at that time, I was exposed to the "Chinese Martial Arts Sanda King Championship" and many Sanda Tournament videos. My idol at that time was my future coach, Liu Xianwei, a "light sword rider". I long to be in the ring like him.

Fate is destined, I did not expect to have a mentor-apprentice relationship with Coach Liu Xianwei.

Reporter: What was the initial impression of the martial arts sanda?

The first encounter with the martial art of Sanda is both novel and fun. I didn't expect that after professional guidance and hard training, my fists and legs could burst out with such a powerful force.

Although I was ready to suffer hardships, I really did not expect that the suffering I encountered was far beyond my imagination, and the initial novelty was gone.

Soon after coming to the Oriental Liberal Arts School, I cried every day and called my father. The food at the martial arts school did not have an appetite for me, and in actual combat training, I was often beaten to the point of blue nose and swollen face. Hungry and tired and bitter, my heart was full of grievances. The road is chosen by oneself, and no matter how bitter it is, it must continue to go on. After surviving the initial hardships, I slowly learned to adapt. After that, I even started to like this life.

The elimination rate of the martial arts sanda is still very high. Many people cannot bear this kind of suffering. When I first joined the team, there were more than 30 brothers in the division, and I was the only one who could persist until now.

Reporter: How to enter the Fujian Provincial Sanda Team?

In 2012, the coaching team of Fujian Wushu Sanda Team selected materials across the country. When I saw my idol coming to Changsha, I was very excited and signed up for the audition. There were three people with me, and in the end, for various reasons, I was the only one left. I think it was my attitude that impressed Coach Liu Xianwei, Zhao Xiaorui and Zhang Qingjun.

In 2012, I successfully entered the Fujian Provincial Sanda Team.

Reporter: The most impressive game?

In 2011, I participated in the Changsha Sanda Championship for the first time, playing in the 48 kg category. This is my first time participating in an official competition at the city level.

I was well prepared before the game. But during training the day before the race, an accident happened. I accidentally fell and my elbow hit the ground. It was really painful, it was a sleepless night. After the game, an inspection revealed that a bone had been broken. When the coach learned of the situation, he hoped that I would put my body first, after all, there would be opportunities in the future. However, I do want to prove myself in the "big game" and don't want to give up.

Insisting on playing two games, the third game was really unbearable. I went to the hospital for a CT scan, only to find that the bones had been broken. Luckily, after surgery, I recovered well from my injuries.

Many years later, recall the experience. I think that perhaps it is this spirit of perseverance that has always sustained my Sanda dream.

Reporter: What is the experience of professional and professional competitions?

The most obvious difference between a martial arts sanda professional event and a professional (commercial) event is the rules.

Martial arts sanda professional events are a bonus point system, athletes can play points and grab points according to their own technical characteristics, protective gear can also effectively reduce defensive pressure; professional (commercial) events are a point reduction system, the pursuit of offense and heavy blows, the game only retains the tooth guard, crotch guard, boxing sleeve and other protective gear, the confrontation is very strong, many masters have a trick accidentally KO experience. These two competitions are a great test for the transformation of athletes' skills and tactics.

My technical approach is "outsmart to win". My style of play is not fixed and is more flexible. In the game, I like to use my brain to read the game and judge the opponent, like to seize the effective opportunity, take advantage of the opponent's "fist", "leg out" and "hesitation" moments, seize the time difference to hit the opponent.

Reporter: In the 2019 Sanda World Finals, the score was unfortunately defeated by Feng Jie, how to summarize this game?

I think the most fundamental reason is that my pre-game homework is not in place, and my analysis of Feng Jie is still not enough.

At that time, I just wanted to blindly attack and win the game, and I did not adjust the tactics in time as needed during the game, and I was thrown several times by Feng Shige. To sum up, the rhythm control of the scene is still not good, it is easy to be affected by sudden changes on the field, and it is always more passive in the game.

Chen Cheng (Blue Fang) vs Feng Jie (Red Fang)

If I can participate in the Chinese martial arts Sanda King Championship, I hope to have another match with Feng Shige. "Although Mount Hua is high, there is a road at the top." Only by playing tricks with the masters who have defeated themselves, and only by finding ways to face the failures of the past, can we make progress.

Reporter: Are there any regrets?

My biggest regret is that I did not play for the Chinese team.

I've always wanted to contribute to my country and go to international competitions, but for various reasons, I always missed it. I hope to have the opportunity to do so in the future, regardless of identity. Fighting for the country and adding glory to the country is my goal and ideal all along.

Reporter: What are your plans after retiring?

I have applied for retirement in October this year. After retiring from the army, I am ready to return to my hometown changsha to develop.

There are already plans that I will enter college as a martial arts sanda teacher. I have been studying the teaching of Sanda for some time now, and I hope to do my part in the "Passing on the Martial Arts of Sanda" project.

On weekdays, I also maintain training, trying to seize the opportunity, and one day realize my dreams and make up for my regrets.

Reporter: At this National Games, the Fujian Sanda team performed well, especially the young players.

My first feeling is "the afterlife is terrible"!

They have a positive attitude, and they have the strength to never be used up and dare to fight. As long as they maintain serious and hard training, in the future, they will definitely have their own place.

The success of the Fujian Wushu Sanda Team is inseparable from the hard work of Coach Liu Xianwei, Zhang Qingjun and Zhao Xiaorui. The coaches have a unique perspective on Sanda and have strict management and discipline in daily life and training.

The Fujian Sanda Team has cultivated our self-discipline and hard-working spirit. This is the guarantee for the sustainable development of our team.
