Based on the opinions of readers, experts and the review committee, Wang Anyi's "A Knife, a Thousand Words", Liu Zhenyun's "One Day and Three Autumns", Dongxi's "Echoes", Yu Hua's "Wencheng", and Luo Weizhang's "Who Is Knocking on the Door" were selected as the top five novels in 2021.
Yan Jingming, vice chairman of the China Writers Association, said that the creation of novels in the past year has demonstrated the power of literature. Writers actively pay attention to social reality, think deeply about the propositions of life, write about social changes, convey human warmth, and show a broader vision. At the same time, the creation reflects the trend of "allegorization of the hometown", and contains the feelings of home and country in the reflection on the countryside and the pursuit of self.
The event also announced the overall champion of the "Contemporary" Literary Rally, Fan Wen's "The Sun Turns", Feng Jicai's "Danube Gorge", Zhu Yong's "Forbidden City Cultural Relics Moving South" won the overall championship of the annual novel, short story and documentary works, and "Patron" and "1937, Yan'an Dialogue" won the "'Centennial Tribute to the Founding of the Party'".
