Apple's head of automotive software engineering left to join Meta, and the Apple automotive team was almost completely wiped out

According to Bloomberg, Joe Bass, head of software engineering project management for Apple's automotive team, has left Apple to join Meta as director of VR technology project management.

With Bass leaving, the Apple auto team was almost wiped out. Dave Scott, Jaime Waydo, Dave Rosenthal and Benjamin Lyon all left in early 2021, and Apple's automotive team director Doug Field left last September, as did Michael Schwekutsch, who was in charge of hardware.

Recently, South Korean media reported that Apple will complete the selection of auto suppliers within this year and begin full development. Therefore, Korean parts companies are scrambling to enter the supply chain of Apple's car project "Apple Car". Apple has shown a proactive approach to auto projects, including equity investments in at least one South Korean electronic parts manufacturer and asking it to more than double its production capacity, the sources said. And after face-to-face meetings with some suppliers, they will continue to discuss the manufacturing of parts for Apple cars through online meetings.
