Eat more salt every day, and your blood sugar will be worse! Sugar friends should strictly control the amount of salt!

Table salt, as an indispensable condiment in our daily lives, its main ingredient is sodium chloride, and our diet needs a certain amount of sodium to maintain the water balance and cellular function in the body. But long-term intake of too much table salt can endanger our health, such as causing high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, stroke and other diseases. Recently, researchers at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China found that diabetics eat more salt every day and their blood sugar will be worse.

Eat more than 8 grams of salt per day, and the blood sugar rises severely

A total of 1145 people with type 2 diabetes were included in the study, with an average age of 51.4 years. According to the daily salt intake, the researchers were divided into three groups: ≤6 g/day, 6 to 8 g/day, and >8 g/day.

Studies have shown that diabetic patients with a daily salt > 8 grams are significantly higher in average fasting blood glucose, blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin in the two hours after a meal compared with diabetic patients with a daily salt ≤ of 6 grams and 6 to 8 grams of salt per day. Moreover, people who eat more salt every day are not only more common in overweight and central obesity, but also have a higher prevalence of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia and coronary heart disease.

The study also found that after considering mixed factors such as lifestyle, body mass index, waist circumference, > 8 grams of daily salt was positively correlated with fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin. Compared with the daily salt ≤6 g, the daily salt > 8 g, which increased fasting blood glucose by 2.3 mmol/L and the glycosylated hemoglobin by 0.67%.

Why does eating salty increase the risk of elevated blood sugar?

Researchers believe that it is possible that a high-salt diet raises blood sugar levels in patients by increasing body weight, in addition to the increased fat free acid in the blood also inhibits the use of peripheral glucose.

Sugar friends should strictly control the amount of salt

From this point of view, for diabetes, a common disease of endocrinology, salt restriction is also an indispensable daily homework, which is closely related to the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the occurrence and development of diabetic complications related to kidney disease, retinopathy, neuropathy and so on.

However, in life, many sugar friends have difficulty accepting the salt limit, always feel that the taste is light, and they "do not eat" when eating.

Li Quanmin, chief physician of the Department of Endocrinology and Immunology of the Rocket Force Special Medical Center, said in an interview.

A "light" diet is conducive to controlling the amount of food,

Very important for blood sugar control.

If it feels salty, the salt is excessive.

Another important reason for salt restriction in diabetic patients is that 75% to 80% of patients have hypertension, and excessive salt content in the human body will increase blood volume and blood viscosity, inducing hypertension, and hypertension is one of the main factors causing diabetic complications.

In fact, in the mainland's "Healthy China Action (2019-2030)", it is recommended that the per capita daily salt intake is not higher than 5 grams.

Diabetic patients should have less salt than normal people, diabetic non-hypertensive patients should consume less than 5 grams of salt per day, hypertensive patients and diabetic nephropathy patients should not exceed 3 grams, if the disease worsens, the restriction is more stringent, and the daily salt intake should not exceed 1 gram.

Sugar friends can use low sodium salt instead of ordinary salt

So, how can diabetics control salt?

Lu Yingli, chief physician of the Department of Endocrinology of the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, pointed out that

First of all, eat only one cap of salt a day, such as mineral water or a thin cap of a beverage bottle, which is 4 to 5 grams full, which is enough for diabetics.

Secondly, some people like to eat vegetable soup and rice together, but the salt content of vegetable soup is the highest. Therefore, it is necessary to eat only vegetables and not soup, which can reduce the intake of table salt.

Third, low-sodium salt can be used instead of ordinary salt to cook food.

In addition, in addition to salt in the daily diet, other high-sodium foods also need to pay attention to controlling intake, such as monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, sauce, pickled products, salt soaking and other processed foods.
