Foxconn will cooperate with Indonesia to produce electric vehicles and components

IT Home January 24 news, according to Reuters January 21 news, Foxconn announced that it has reached a cooperation with the Indonesian investment department and several companies, in order to support the development of electric vehicles in Southeast Asian countries, will invest in the country to manufacture electric vehicle parts. Foxconn said it has partnered with the Indonesian Investment Ministry as well as Indonesian battery companies and energy companies PT Indika Energy (INDY. JK) and Gogoro signed a memorandum of understanding on extensive investment in electric vehicles, including battery manufacturing.

The company said in a statement that the cooperation aims to establish a "new energy ecosystem" in Indonesia, and also includes the development of supporting industries such as energy storage systems, substations and electric vehicle recycling. Under the partnership, indonesian companies will have access to Hon Hai Group's MIH Electric Vehicle Open Platform.

In 2021, Foxconn has struck deals with U.S. startup Fisker Inc and Thai energy group PTT PCL.

IT Home learned that Foxconn did not disclose a detailed investment scale or production plan, but it aims to provide parts or services for 10% of the world's electric vehicles by 2025-2027. Its chairman, Liu Yongwei, has said it will use its assembly technology to reduce the manufacturing and other costs of cars.
