【Good Story】 Sanhe Town, Tai Po County, has been full of learning since ancient times, and its people are brilliant, especially the Chen Mingshao family's "one door and nine Qinghua" and its reputation is far and wide, which is praised by local villagers and passed down as a good story.
Recently, the author drove 100 kilometers to Tai Po Sanhe Town to visit the Chen Ancestral Hall located in the foothills of Fengxiang Mountain in Huicheng. This is a typical Hakka dragon house with two entrances and four horizontals and one wall, surrounded by mingshan and lishui infused with natural aura, and the secluded courtyard and verdant trees give it a rich atmosphere of bookish fragrance. Chen Mingshao, a well-known energy and environmental expert and professor, was born in the right horizontal house of this ancestral hall. He and his wife and three generations of grandchildren totaled 10 people, except for one granddaughter-in-law who studied at the Beijing Dance Academy, the other 9 graduated from Tsinghua University, and all of them have made great achievements.
Chen Mingshao graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University in June 1936 and is a well-known energy and environmental expert in mainland China. His wife, Chen Yimin, was a senior student in the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University in 1937, teaching at Beijing University of Technology, and died of illness in 2003. Chen Mingshao's son, Chen Hu, who served as dean and professor of the Beijing Institute of Mechanical Engineering after graduating from Qing University, is now retired; his daughter-in-law Ge Deyu is also a son of Qing University and a professor at Beijing Union University; his daughter Chen An graduated from Qing University and went to the United States from Beijing University of Technology in 1989 and later stayed in the United States; son-in-law Li Guang graduated from the Department of Engineering Mathematics and Mechanics of Tsinghua University in 1969 and later became a professor at Beijing University of Technology. His eldest grandson Chen Fan was a graduate of Qingda University in 1991; his wife Song Ye was a graduate student of The Department of Architecture of Qingda University; and his younger grandson, Chen Ying, was enrolled in the Construction Management Department of the Department of Civil Engineering of Qingda University in 1993.
The beautiful waters of the Lingshan Mountains of Sanheba have nurtured the Hakka family for generations. In ancient times, there were "one belly and three Hanlin", and now there is "one door and nine Qinghua", and it is no accident that the Chen family has this extraordinary phenomenon, but is inseparable from its profound cultural tradition and rigorous educational philosophy. Education lies in cultivating good habits, in the Hakka area of the culture of heavy education in the climate, the Chen family has always attached importance to "diligent and thrifty family, and Shunqi family, poetry and books to start from the family and loyalty and filial piety", firmly believe that "tighten the belt to win, only reading can 'peel off the grain shell' (meaning 'have a birth')" simple concept, with "meticulous, Mingde truth-seeking, democracy and harmony" style of governance to run the family, always tighten the emphasis on the education of future generations of this string, let the children hear and witness, personally experience the hardships of life and the hardships of their fathers, Inspire the love of family and learning, pay attention to the poetry of the family, sharpen self-improvement, "from frugality to luxury, from luxury to thrift; a porridge and a meal when thinking is not easy to come by, half a thread and half a wisp of constant thoughts and material resources are difficult..." These aphorisms and famous sayings are always remembered in the hearts of every Chen family member, and let them benefit for life, and finally cast the moving legend of the Chen Ancestral Hall "One Door Nine Qinghua".
Although he is an energy and environmental expert in science and engineering, according to the author's understanding, Chen Mingshao is also proficient in chinese classical poetry and song, especially inheriting the tradition of Chinese literati poetry and speech, every time there is a meaning, he will chant one or two, and there are often good sentences. Once, he went to Chengdu on a business trip and stopped by Du Fu Caotang. Seeing the smoke and dust everywhere, the sky covering the sun, the blue sky and white clouds, the green grass and trees, and the birds and flowers are all gone. He was touched and sad, and improvised the poem "Feeling nostalgic for the grass hall environment". The poem reads:
Dusty green willows, ancient wood grass in autumn.
Where are the songbirds? There is no chance to see the white gull.
Empty of the Snow of the West Ridge, looking forward to the East Wuzhou.
The reputation of the city is not worthy of the reputation, and the water of Huanhua Creek flows.
The poems not only express Chen Lao's worries and ardent hopes for environmental pollution, but also the poetry is also very beautiful and catchy. Wherever he goes, environmental protection is his biggest concern. His traditional culture studies, his poetry is no different. "Qinghua Nine Flowers, Qi Bloom Chen Family" - The Chen family is worthy of being a model of Tai Po, the "hometown of culture".

Chen Mingshao (1914-2009), born in Sanhe Town, Tai Po County, studied at Tai Po Sanhe Public School, Cannabis Middle School and Shantou Brick Stone Middle School in his early years, and then was admitted to Tsinghua University; he served as vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and vice president of Beijing University of Technology. As a well-known energy and environmental expert in the mainland, he has made indelible and outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology and environmental protection. In 1998, the People's Daily gave him a high evaluation of him for his reputation of "integrating scientists and politicians".
