Igor Fruman, a Florida man, was sentenced to 1 year and 1 day in prison and fined $10,000 on suspicion of participating in the campaign financing case on the 21st. It is worth mentioning that Fruman helped Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani in Ukraine to find unfavorable news against Biden.

The Associated Press reported that Fruman had pleaded guilty to a single charge of asking for donations from foreign citizens last September. During the trial, he admitted to asking Russian entrepreneur Andrey Muraviev for $1 million to donate to Republicans in Nevada, Florida and other states to advance the recreational marijuana business.

For that, federal prosecutors in New York had urged Judge J. Paul Oetken to sentence Fruman to 3 to 4 years in prison. Altken said the crime of raising foreign money for U.S. political campaigns was serious. "It undermines the integrity of American elections and undermines democracy." Assistant Federal Prosecutor Hagan Scotten said the crime caused "immeasurable damage" because it undermined public trust in U.S. elections.

But Mr. Fruman's defense lawyers said he should not have been sentenced to prison because he had been law-abiding. Defense attorney Todd Blanche said his client had been in jail for 8 days after his arrest and had been confined at home for another 2 years and 4 months, "which was enough to punish".

Fruman, 55, is the father of four children. He will be jailed on March 14 to be punished. In court, he told the judge that he had reflected on his crimes.

Also sued along with Fruman was Lev Parnas, a Florida businessman. Parnas also helped Giuliani sabotage Biden's campaign.

Both Fruman and Parnas are contacts between former New York Mayor Giuliani and Ukrainian officials and business tycoons. Giuliani had tried to persuade Ukrainian prosecutors to investigate Biden's son Hunter's job at an energy company.

However, federal prosecutors did not mention allegations related to "Ukrainian influence activities" in this case. Parnas was also convicted of campaign finance last October and is awaiting sentencing.

Illegal donation recipients, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Nevada attorney general Adam Laxalt, said they did not know the money came from overseas. Muraviev was not indicted in the case.

For now, Giuliani, who served as Trump's personal lawyer, is still under ongoing investigation into whether he was required to register as a foreign government agent during his dealings with Ukrainian authorities. Giuliani said everything he did in Ukraine was for Trump's benefit, and that there was no reason he had to register as a foreign agent.

After a search of Giuliani's home and business last year, former federal judge Barbara Jones was appointed to investigate which materials in the seized electronic devices could be handed over to criminal prosecutors. In a 4-page report released on the 21st, Jones said that only a few dozen of the tens of thousands of communications on Giuliani's 7 electronic devices could not be handed over to prosecutors because they contained privileged communications. Jones said further arrangements are pending. (End)
