Hochu's campaign for governor of New York raised far more money than his bipartisan rivals

Hochu's campaign for governor of New York raised far more money than his bipartisan rivals

On Tuesday, according to campaign finance documents submitted by several candidates, On the Democratic side, Rep. Tom Suozzi, a Democrat representing Long Island, raised $5.4 million; Jumaane Williams, a Public Interest Defender in New York City, had just $222,000 on hand, according to the Associated Press. On the Republican side, Conservative Rep. Lee Zeldin, who represents the eastern tip of Long Island, raised $5.6 million, and Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Giuliani, declared $188,400.

Hochu has also received donations and support from many of New York State's most influential unions, lawmakers, and advocacy groups. Her strong performance early in the campaign has forced potential contenders to pull out. State Attorney General Letitia James withdrew from the race, and the former New York City Bill de Blasio announced this week that he would not run.

In terms of total existing campaign funding, Mr. Hochu's closest rival is former Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose campaign funding was $16 million as of mid-January. Gormow has long planned to run for re-election, but resigned last August because of sexual harassment allegations and an impeachment trial looming.

So far, Gormy has not directly indicated that he will not run for governorship in 2022. But if Mr. Gormow chooses to run this year, his time will be tight and he will likely have to run without the help of the Democratic establishment. Of course, Gormy could also use his campaign funds to support other candidates. Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Gemmo, said Wednesday he had no details about the possible use of Gormuda's campaign funds.
