The English singers of Jieyang
Yingge is a folk art form widely spread in the Chaoshan region, with group dance as the main body, the history can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty, the style is rough and majestic, often paraded during the Spring Festival, symbolizing the promotion of the right to suppress evil and pray for auspiciousness.
Yingge came to Jieyang, and there are major genres such as Puning Yingge, Jiexi Yingge, Huilai Yingge and so on. All are based on the theme of liangshan good man, the style is majestic and strong, heroic and rough, and it is interpreted in three sheds in front of the middle and back.
Puning Ying Song

The front shed of Puning Yingge is the main body of Yingge, the middle shed is a local traditional small opera performance, and the back shed is a martial arts performance. In the Performance of The English Song, the formations are unpredictable, such as "Double Dragon Out to sea", "Tiger Descending", "Wheat Ear Flower" and "Field Screw Circle"; action sets are varied, such as "Butian", "Washing Street", "Spinning Mallet" and "Mallet Flower". According to the rhythm of the board, it can be divided into allegro English song, middle plate English song, and slow board English song, each with its own wonderful points. Puning Yingge has the reputation of "Ansai waist drum in the north and Puning Yingge in the south", and Puning has also been rated as "the hometown of ethnic folk art in Guangdong Province". In 2006, Puning Yingge was selected into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

Huilai Yingge is especially famous for the Shenquan Yingge. Huilai has the only stretch of coastline in Jieyang, and the Ying song also carries the breath of the sea breeze: after the exuberant front shed Yingge, the back shed also has small tide opera programs with coastal characteristics such as "Picking Salt for Trading" and "Zhou Good Counting Eight Characters".
Shenquan Yingge also has a special technique, called "live mallet walking finger", "finger flying mallet": dancers with five fingers rotating to knock the live mallet, holding a double hammer, swirling dance in the air, unique skills, strong performance method, high ornamentality, is the bottom of the pressure box stunt.

Inheritance and development
Jieyang Yingge has gone through more than three hundred years, saying that the long is not long, saying that the short is not short, but it is enough to take root in the hearts of generations of Jieyang people. However, as the inheritors grew old and the young people left their hometowns to work, the Yingge team was once green and yellow, and the Yingge inheritance was in jeopardy. After a series of explorations, in recent years, Jieyang Yingge heritage protection has achieved considerable results.

Traditionally, the English song team consists of young adult males. Nowadays, the women's English song team and the children's English song team have also appeared in the parade of the New Year Festival. The pilot activity of "Yingge into the School" has also achieved remarkable results, and the inheritors have entered kindergartens and primary schools to teach Yingge by hand, established a young children's Yingge team and a juvenile Yingge team, so that The excellent traditional Chinese culture can take root in the hearts of children from an early age, and move the focus of The inheritance of Yingge forward. In 2019 and 2020, Nanshan Primary School in Liusha West Street, Puning was rated as "Guangdong Provincial Primary and Secondary School Art Education Characteristic School" and "Guangdong Provincial Primary and Secondary School Chinese Excellent Cultural Inheritance School" by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and more than 2,000 students in the school can dance English song and dance.

In February 2019, the second "Puning Yingge (Folk) Cultural Festival" was grandly held, and 8 Yingge teams such as Nanshan and Nigou contributed wonderful performances at the opening ceremony, comprehensively demonstrating the style of Yingge and the extensive mass base of Jieyang folk culture. Jieyang Yingge has developed from the original folk spontaneous to today, and has taken a big step onto the literary and artistic stage of the new era.
