Among the descendants of Nurhaci, in addition to Emperor Taiji of the Qing Dynasty and the regent Dolgun, there is another person who deserves considerable attention: he is Nurhaci's eldest son Chu Ying. In his early years, Chu Ying followed his father's conquests and made great military achievements, and was even placed high hopes on being trained as a successor. However, this once invincible general was killed by his own father.
Regarding Chu Ying's death, it is also quite controversial. Some people say that he was severely punished for lying about military information during the Battle of Salhu, and others say that Chu Ying's death was caused by advising Nurhaci not to cut down the Ming. So, what was the real reason for Chu Ying's execution? Today I will talk to you about the death of Chu Ying in history.
Nurhaci's mother died early, lived in the shadow of her stepmother at an early age, and was forced to fend for herself at a young age. When he was nineteen years old, Nurhaci married Tong Jiashi, the future concubine of Nurhaci. Princess Yuan gave birth to Chu Ying and DaiShan for Nurhaci. Nurhaci and the Yuan Concubine had a very good relationship, although later there were a series of concubines such as yehenara, but this Yuan Concubine, Nurhaci's feelings were very deep. Therefore, Chu Ying and Dai Shan were also once valued by Nurhaci.
Because Chu Ying was the eldest son of Nurhaci and had been following Nurhaci in the Eastern Expedition to the West, he was also a great meritorious service. Therefore, Nurhaci had placed hopes in him. Although Nurhaci was a leader of the Later Jin Dynasty, he was also influenced by Han culture and tried to establish his eldest son Chu Ying as his heir, and made him in charge of military affairs to cultivate a successor.
However, Chu Ying, a narrow-minded person, has arrogantly and arrogantly since presiding over the administration of the military state, forcing his brothers to obey his words. He even threatened that anyone who dared to disobey him would be killed after he was called Khan. Nurhaci's other sons were also meritorious men, and their abilities could not be underestimated, and in the long run, they were bound to resent, so some Baylor exposed his words and deeds. When Nurhaci learned of this, he was very angry and gradually gave up his plan to make him his heir.
To this end, Chu Ying, instead of repenting in the slightest, intensified his efforts and threatened to put to death those who exposed him. He then began to collude with party support, carry out conspiracies, and curse Nurhaci and the ministers. When Nurhaci learned of this, he imprisoned him and eventually put him to death. "Chu Yingyi was not self-satisfied, burned the watch to complain to the heavens, but sat and chewed the curse, forbidden, was ugly, and died in the forbidden place in August of the second year of the second year." - Draft History of the Qing Dynasty
Although the draft history of the Qing Dynasty has the guiding ideology of being secretive to the king, it will not distort the facts too much in the end. However, because the text only says that "Chu Ying died in the forbidden place", it is not directly stated that he was killed by Nurhaci or died of depression. Therefore, many later generations believe that Chu Ying's death was probably executed by order of Nurhaci. However, even if Nurhaci had never issued an order to execute Chu Ying, the death of the strong Chu Ying in the forbidden place was mostly related to his imprisonment. From this point of view, it can also be regarded as Nurhaci killing his own son.
As for some people who said that Chu Ying was executed by lying about military information during the Battle of Salhu, it was a misunderstanding. The Battle of Salhun was fought in 1619 and Chu Ying died in 1615, and the timing of the two is asymmetrical. To be sure, lying about military information is untenable. Moreover, even if Chu Ying had lied about military information, at most he would have stripped him of his position as crown prince, and would not have allowed Nurhaci to order the execution of his own son.
In addition, there is also a saying in the Ming Dynasty that Chu Ying's death was attributed to his efforts to prevent Nurhaci from the Ming Dynasty. This argument is actually a rhetoric made up to maintain the orthodoxy and face of the Ming Dynasty, deliberately viewing Nurhacifaming as an unjust war. In fact, Chu Ying, as a general who was brave and good at war in the Later Jin Dynasty, although his heart was not right, his grasp of war was still forward-looking, and since he was a child, he followed his father to the south to fight in the northern war, how could he stop Vaming?
On the whole, the root cause of Nurhaci's change in attitude toward Chu Ying is that his eldest son is narrow-minded, vicious, does not miss the love of father and son, and even curses his father to heaven. Because of this, Nurhaci ordered Chu Ying to be imprisoned and the execution of this son. Chu Ying was originally the successor designated by Hou Jin, but he died of cannibalism, which fully explains a truth: there will be disasters if the morality is not worthy!
