Sure enough, as in other countries and regions, "The Matrix Restart" was also not favored by the audience after it was released in the mainland on Friday. Only 51.89 million yuan of box office was earned in the 4 days of release, and the online rating was only 5.7 points, which made this "dog-tailed sable" work worthless.

If you compare it to The Matrix, released in 1999, you'll see that The Matrix Reboot is not right anywhere. For example, the overall tone of "The Matrix" is a nostalgic, dark green with a deep color, while the overall tone of "The Matrix Restart" is a high-brightness green, which looks very cheap and tacky.
"The Matrix: Matrix Reboot" is a reboot, the goal is obviously not just to make a film, which can be seen from the end of the film: Trinity replaced Neo's skill, grabbed his hand and flew up, while The villains such as Smith still exist, the confrontation between the Matrix and humans has not been lifted, and the new human refuge city "Io" faces the attack of robots. All of this suggests that The Matrix Reboot is at least the first film in the next trilogy.
But sadly, The Matrix Reboot screwed up. This "smash" can be divided into two levels:
One is the production level. The reason why "The Matrix" made people drop their jaws that year was because for the first time in the film's special effects history of the "bullet time" picture, Neo and Morpheus when the slow-motion combination of the fight took off was stunned, before the Marvel superhero movies appeared in large numbers, the confrontation between humans and robots in the film was even more bloody. And all of this, not only was it not upgraded and iterated in The Matrix Restart, but it was not even copied. In the film, there is only a picture of Neo reaching out to block the bullet, and even the sense of ritual of pretending to be cool has been removed. Compared with the action director Yuan Heping's sharp and elegant "passing moves" in "The Matrix", the action screen in "The Matrix Restart" has no sense of beauty and rhythm, and looks like a melee.
The other is the theme of the story. The script of "The Matrix" is almost perfect, and the fatalistic love of Neo and Trinity, the philosophical proposition of personal will and cruel fate, the contest between the matrix world and human "control and counter-control", and the interpretation of the future world in the film are perfectly integrated. In contrast, The Matrix Reboot solves two things throughout the film: one is that Neo is remanufactured by the "analyst" and gradually acquires a personal will; the other is his determination to rescue Trinity at all costs, and the proposition of "saving the world" is not even mentioned.
If the "Matrix" trilogy is the classic American Western mode, then "The Matrix Restart" is like Eastwood's "Unforgivable", the hero has twilight, the world has changed dramatically, and the hero's ambition has been sinking for a long time.
Because of the box-office failure of The Matrix Reboot, does Warner Bros. still have the confidence to move on to its next production? Admittedly, the Matrix trilogy brought Warner Bros. a lot of revenue and resources, but their good fortune at the box office has come to an end. "Speed Racer", "Cloud Atlas", "Jupiter Uplink" without exception have all failed at the box office, this time on the "Matrix: Matrix Restart", Warner Bros. must also want to gain something at the box office, after all, "Star Wars", "Jurassic Park" and other reboots have made a lot of money, but unfortunately this good luck has not been achieved in "The Matrix Restart". This makes it inevitable for me to darken: with the quality of the film so comprehensively pulling down the bottom line, is it a means of "control and counter-control" for director Lana Wachowski in confronting the power of capital?
