Rumor: Sega may reboot "Crazy Taxi" and "Graffiti Kid"

According to Bloomberg, Sega may restart the DC platform classic games "Crazy Taxi" and "Graffiti Kid", which will be the first two parts of Sega's "Super Game" program. People familiar with the matter said that the new "Crazy Taxi" has been in development for more than a year and is scheduled to be released in 2-3 years. But both new games are in the early stages of creation and are still likely to be canceled.

The company announced a "super game" program a year ago, which aims to develop an online community that can have a sustainable revenue stream and build a community around the game. Fortnite is a prime example of this type of game. The game is free to play, available across platforms, can host massively multiplayer tournaments, and includes additional content such as vehicles, builds, and social events in addition to regular battles, spurring players to purchase in-game items.

A year ago, in Sega's annual report, "Crazy Taxi" let players play as a taxi driver whose speed is above all else, and "Graffiti Kid" is an award-winning street action game that was included together in Sega's list of intellectual property assets that it hopes to recapitalize through renewal. Prior to this, Sega's online RPG game, Dreamstar Online 2, while sought after by players around the world, did not inspire a thriving market through in-game purchases. Sega plans to be more proactive in addressing this monetization issue with upcoming games. According to Tokyo gaming consultant Serkan Toto, even niche games do build a loyal fan base.

But a Sega spokesperson said the company is not commenting on this at this time.
