According to Gartner's ranking, Samsung's semiconductor revenue surged 31.6 percent in 2021 to $75.9 billion. The last time the company won the championship was in 2018. The ranking is based on Gartner's preliminary results and excludes foundries such as TSMC.
Sales in Samsung's memory business grew 34.2 percent last year due to home demand. Shipments of personal computers and other electronics, as well as products in servers, have surged.
End-product manufacturers increased chip inventories before expanding production, prompting higher semiconductor prices. Market prices are stabilizing as inventories fall, but demand for chips for servers remains strong.
According to Gartner, the entire semiconductor market grew 25.1 percent to $583.5 billion last year, with sales topping $500 billion for the first time.
Intel, which fell to second place, saw its revenue rise just 0.5 percent to $73.1 billion. In the fierce competition in the server CPU space, the U.S. chipmaker's sales grew the slowest among the top 25 companies.
AMD's market share rose from 14th to 10th. Qualcomm and MediaTek ranked fifth and seventh, respectively. (Proofreading/Stan)
