Beijing News: The Winter Olympic flower bed is the third group of large flower beds you designed last year, how to innovate in the process?
Blue Ocean Wave: Last year, we designed the centenary flower bed of the founding of the Party, the flower bed of the National Day and the flower bed of the Winter Olympics, which is a rare experience.
The design of the Winter Olympic flower bed mainly considers the integration of Chinese culture and world culture, such as reflecting both the Olympic spirit, Chinese elements such as red lanterns, and Beijing characteristics such as "Haituo DaiXue".
Beijing News: The Winter Olympics-themed flower bed unveiled in Tiananmen Square this time uses the image of a Chinese knot instead of the familiar large flower basket, why use this element?
Blue Ocean Wave: The early stage of the Winter Olympics coincides with the Spring Festival, and we consider combining festive Spring Festival elements and Winter Olympic elements in the flower beds. The shape of the Chinese knot not only incorporates the emblem of the Winter Olympics, but also has snowflake elements.
The red Chinese knot symbolizes festivity, and this traditional shape is in harmony with the surrounding environment of Tiananmen Square, and the color also echoes the red city towers and walls. The Spring Festival is a time of family reunion, using Chinese knots to highlight traditional Chinese culture, and also symbolizes that people all over the world work together to create a better future.
It is worth mentioning that the bottom of the flower bed is also unique. From above, the pattern at the bottom is five rings surrounded by snowflakes, symbolizing the five continents celebrating the Winter Olympics. At present, most of the organic coverings of the colored plants at the bottom are made of branches pruned from the garden, and when the weather warms up during the Winter Paralympic Games, these covers will be replaced by cold-resistant flowers in early spring, so that the flower beds will change from "silver wrapped" to "spring neon clothes", and the Winter Olympic emblems on the flower beds will also be replaced by the Winter Paralympic emblems.
Beijing News: Of the 10 Winter Olympic-themed flower beds this time, 4 are on Chang'an Avenue and 1 are located in Tiananmen Square.
Blue Waves: In addition to the five flower beds on Tiananmen Square and Chang'an Avenue, we also designed two flower beds at the exit of the airport terminal building and the Siyuan Bridge (the other three are located on the south side of the Linglong Tower in the Olympic Park, the southwest corner of the Octagonal Bridge and the south entrance of Yanqing Yuchuan Square).
The Winter Olympics is a global event, and we hope that guests will feel the enthusiasm of Beijing as soon as they get off the plane. Therefore, the flower bed of the "Welcome Event" in the airport special airport building uses mascots, snowflakes and streamers to create a warm atmosphere for welcoming guests. The two mascots of "Ice Pier" and "Snow Rongrong" greet guests at both ends of the intersection, and their "size" is relatively large.
Foreign guests travel from the airport to their destinations, passing by flower beds located at The Siyuan Bridge. This flower bed is based on the emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, theme slogans, auspicious clouds and other shapes, expressing the common desire to work together to "go to the future together".

Blue Waves: The flower beds will be under construction in January and will be placed until the end of the Winter Paralympic Games. At present, the minimum temperature at night can reach -10 °C, and the temperature in March may reach 15 °C, and the low temperature and large temperature difference bring great difficulties to the flower bed landscaping. In terms of design, we must consider windproof and cold protection, while ensuring that the flower bed shows a perfect effect.
On the other hand, we must not only let the public feel the passion and charm of ice and snow, but also let everyone feel the atmosphere of the New Year. In the cold winter, we overcome the difficulties of plants that are difficult to survive, constantly innovate in the design, and choose northern winter plants with good ornamental effects, such as red-branched red wood, golden branch locust, silk cotton wood, North American holly and other dry, branch and fruit plants. There are also 21 kinds of coniferous trees and evergreen broad-leaved trees, including colorful conifers such as blue-pink spruce with rich leaves, golden juniper, and "blue paradise" Rocky Mountain cypress, as well as beautiful and vigorous shaped oil pines. The organic mulch material on the ground is derived from nature, such as the use of brightly colored plants such as red wood and golden locust to avoid a stiff feeling. After March, some early spring flowers will replace some of the existing materials.

Blue Waves: Since Beijing bid to host the Winter Olympics, I, a southerner, have been fascinated by skiing and have also gone to Chongli's ski resort to experience the charm of ice and snow. In the design, I integrated the ice and snow charm I felt as an ordinary person into the plan, so the flower bed not only has the figure of professional athletes competing, but also the vivid image of the public participating in ice and snow sports, so that everyone can see their own shadow when they walk through the flower bed.
In the design of the "Ice and Snow" flower bed in the southeast corner of Xidan, we take the winter landscape of the northern scenery as the main scene, and integrate the elements of folklore, such as the silhouette of children playing with snow, hoping to evoke everyone's childhood memories, so as to promote ice and snow sports to the public.

Blue Waves: The winter flower beds are illuminated at night, bringing a warm and peaceful feeling. The night view of several flower beds has its own advantages, such as the night view of the flower bed in the northeast corner of Dongdan is very beautiful. The ice ribbon venue is streamlined and looks very ethereal during the day, while the lights of the night scene can be "run", like the feeling of athletes chasing each other.
The snowflake pattern within the five rings at the bottom of the flower bed in Tiananmen Square is red during the day, and the surrounding background echoes, and the snowflake pattern lights up at night are white, looking pure and beautiful, and this discoloration effect will also bring surprises to the citizens.
