According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on the 18th, after the temperature plummeted below the freezing point, a sand dune in the Sahara Desert was covered with snow.

In one of the largest desert sites in the world, snow and ice cover the dunes, a rare phenomenon. Because it has been recorded that the maximum temperature there has reached 58 degrees Celsius.

Photographer Karim Bushetata took these stunning snow and ice photos on the 17th in the town of Ain Sefra in northwestern Algeria.

Overnight, temperatures in the small town of Algeria plummeted to minus 2 degrees Celsius. After an unexpected sporadic snowfall in the area, the snow formed a stunning pattern on the sand.

The Daily Mail noted that this is the fifth snowfall in 42 years, and the previous snowfall occurred in 1979, 2016, 2018 and 2021.

Known as the "Gate of the Desert", Ainsevra is about 914 meters above sea level and is surrounded by the Atlas Mountains.

The Sahara Desert covers much of North Africa and has experienced changes in temperature and humidity over the past few hundred thousand years. Although the Sahara Desert is now very dry, scientists predict it will turn into an oasis again in about 15,000 years.
